What goes in valve cover holes??

Im in the process of putting my 87 Iroc back together. When I gave the valve covers to my dad so he can hot tank them, I forgot what was in the holes for the valve covers.

I know the driver side has the oil fill cap, and in front of that there a tube that sticks in the hole. On the passenger side valve cover there is also a hole that a tube sticks into. Im know ones called the PCV valve, but whats the other one. Are they the same part??. They both have hoses conencted to them also. Im trying to get by with looking at pictures from all your guys galleries, but I can seem to find a close up of any.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Pics coming soon.

The other is the breather hose that goes to the throttle body before the throttle blades.

Dude....first of all...Apeiron...Im gonna airbrush a picture of your face somewhere on the hood on my car...haha....uve been a great help throughout the build. Thanks man

Second...now I know the breather hose on the other side plugs into the throttle body, but what actually plugs into the valve cover....What I mean is the grommet or the part that I buy from fram. I dont know what they are called. Thanks.

I believe the pass. side has a simple "elbow" that the hose attaches to. Just make sure there is a baffle under it. As long as the elbow fits the hose, and your valve cover grommet, you should be OK.

The driver side has the PCV valve, the passenger side just has a plastic elbow.

Does anyone just run a breather in the passenger valve cover? Any benefit to that? -Nick.

Some people do, but you can't on your MAF TPI car.

why should there be a baffle under that 90 degree vent tube that goes to the throttle body?

I just went out to look at mine and there is no PCV on the driver side. Funny, I always thought that was a PCV connected to the hose, but it's just a 90 degree plastic piece that fits in the grommet in the valve cover. The passenger side has one attached to the hose though. By the way, if you're ever down in Hanford, look me up.

AM I GROSSLY WRONG IN THINKING THAT THE MANUAL SAYS ITS A DUEL PCV SYSTEM? IVE GOT TWO PCV'S AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH IS JUST A BREATHER ON MY 89 TPI. THE ONE TO THE PLENUM OR THE ONE TO THE T.B.?
I HAD TWO BREATHERS AND THE CAR RAN BETTER WHEN I RAN A PCV ON THE DRIVERS SIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE PLENUM. PLEASE SET ME STRAIGHT .

You should have a PCV on one side and a CCV (crankcase ventilationon) on the other side. Not sure what the difference between that and a regular breather is.

A regular breather as in a miniature air filter?

If you have a MAF car, you can't use a breather. If you do you'll provide a path for unmetered air to bypass the MAF.

It's probably not hurting that much if you've got the stock hose routing. You might find the elbow in the Help! section of your local parts store, or looks like P/N 10055873 at the dealer.

I just looked in the PIM, and it looks like the PCV is still supposed to be on the driver side on TPI cars.

PCV is on my driver's side. Elbow on passenger's side.

Unmetered air where? Going into the port on the plenum? or the valve cover? I have ran a breather on a MAF car before?

-Nick.

In the stock PCV system on a MAF car, fresh air for the PCV is taken from the air inlet behind the MAF, so that all air entering the intake is metered through the MAF. If you put a breather in, the engine starts drawing air in through the breather, which bypasses the MAF, so it no longer has an accurate measurement of how much air is going in.
