Vortec Head Questions...

Hey Guys, I have a set of Vortec Heads on the way. I'm just wondering if I will have any problems bolting Edelbrock Tes or SLP headers to them. I've been told that the exhaust ports wont match up.

the vortec heads have round exhaust ports. the aluminum L98 heads have D-shaped exhaust ports. So make sure whatever headers you put on it have round ports.

They'll match up ok.

I think the heads/ports sit a 1/4" higher, so I wonder if that'll effect clearance under the oil pan where the header wraps around to the Y pipe. I mean they must, or you'd hear more about this.

I installed the headman full lenghts on my 383 with vortecs without any trouble, i even ported the hell outta the exhaust and it matched perfectly. They are round not D-port so it went fine.[full lenghts with t5 is a nightmare]

Heedman shorties fit fine, actually bolted up with better clearence than the l-98 heads. It is my understanding that you would need bigger tube headers (1 3/4" versus 1 5/8" as I have ) if you were to install fast burn heads though.

I installled SLP 1 3/4 shorties without air on a set of Pro Topline Vortecs. I ended up having to cut the crossover part of the Y-pipe and reweld it. The angles were slightly wrong for my application.

Headers are required with GM Vortec heads, as they dont have the same bolt pattern as stock exhaust manifolds. They're missing a bolt hole on the end. I wish I had a pic to explain it, but sorry I dont.

They actually have both bolt holes.
