Mini-Ram on a stock car?
TPIS claim there mini-ram will give you 95+ HP on a stock tuned port at 5200RPM. Has anyone tried this on there stock car, was it worth it and did it improve your 1/4 times.

Be careful with this statement, a lot of people get tricked by this. First you must keep in mind that the STOCK TPI runs out of air at like 4500 rpm, there is no making power after that, in fact the poower output starts to drop dramatically. Miniram is designed with very short runners and the ability to breathe very well at higher rpms. So at 5200 rpm when a stock TPI is pumping out 110 hp (made up numbers) the miniram is still pumping out 205hp, still not more than the peak HP of a stock motor, but at that rpm, it is in fact 95hp more than the stock. Peak vs Peak on a stock motor you may be looking at 15 hp. As for puting this on a stock motor, I have a friend who did this with very little low end loss and still ran a 14.3 in the higher 90mph range. It's a myth that when bolting on this unit you will lose a lot of low end. Very little is lost if any. My friend went to the track last week, but I have yet to hear his times, I will update when I hear from him. Keep in mind his car is bone stock except for an exhaust (no headers).

think about it like this though, the TPI cars have SOOOO much low end TQ that you can afford to give some up...look at LT1 and LS1 cars...less low end more top end....sure they got better heads...but I figure if you are going miniram...heads and cam must be in the works...
I don't really see a problem with just bolting it on. The stock cam and heads are pretty ****ty but like Bill said his buddy put it on and IMO runs right were a stock one would run if not quicker. Would have to do a before and after test.

You have to look at the specs either in the catalog, or on the web page for their "stock" TPI. It isn't really stock after all, it's a 383, with ported runners and base and the like.

I got my numbers from TPIS's book called (TPIS insider hints), and on page 21 chart N they show a stock 350 TPI 1985 corvette engine produce 311HP at 5250 RPM with the mini-ram while the stock system produced only 216HP at the same RPM.

In their catalog, it gives the parameters of the engine at the top of the chart. It lists a 383 TPI system with Airflow heads, TPIS Big Mouth Manifold, ported Plenum, 58 MM throttle body and a modified Mass Air sensor. Then at the bottom of the chart it will say Stock TPI. Well forgive me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that a stock TPI puts out 448.8 lbs of torque @ 3750 RPM and 336.6 hp@4250 RPM. (Page 63 of catalog). I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything, just conveying my $.02 of what they call stock. Do you see what I mean?

90Iroc where talking about two totally different engines. Back in the 80's TPIS did a test between the stock 350 TPI system vs 750 Holley carb & manifold vs the TPIS Mini- Ram to see what kind of numbers they could get. This was all done on a stock 85 350 Corvette motor with 1 7/8 dyno headers.
You should get the book is got a lot of good information in it.
