how expensive is it to convert to TPI?
I am building a 350. I really like the TPI on my mom's corvette. she gets excelent power and gas mileage with it. How much would it cost for the whole setup (doesn't have to be new)? Does anyone have a used one I can get????
Expense just depends man.. Sometimes you can find a really good deal on used stuff. Keep in mind you will need the computer, probably different wire harness (I have seen a complete harness in Jegs made by painless for around 250$ I think) various senders and sensors, Throttle body, plenum, runners and base. Not to mention the Y looking scoop to the T-body if its a MAF system. Try looking in the classifieds here at Thirdgen. I have seen complete systems for as cheap as 400 bucks. Sometimes people are just selling the plenum runners and base, so try to find complete if you can. Good luck!
My buddy just did the convert to his '77 Camaro. Here is his break down of the cost.
$300 for wireing harness from painless
$300 for gaskets and replacement sensors (not including the MAF)
$350-500 for a new chip
Plus the cost of plenum/runners/computer/ect. from doner car.
They are all approximate cost, carefull planning and shopping are the key.

The deals are out there. I just bought a TPI setup with wiring, ECM, distibutor, intake manifold, airbox, MAF, runners, plenum, throttle body, and any thing else I needed except sensors for $350. Everything is in good condition too. Keep looking and you can put TPI on your car relitively cheap.
good luck

I am in the process of doing this conversion on my Monte Carlo right now. Buying the TPI is probably the cheapest part of this. Don't forget you must upgrade to an electric fuel pump with new fuel lines. You will need to rewire the harness in some cases, add fuses for injectors and emissions if you are keeping them, etc. I figure I am about $1000 including the cost of the TPI. But I have replaced every sensor with new GM except for the MAF.

Buy all your parts on Ebay and it will cost less than $500. My friend just put TPI on his LO3 engine for less than $500 all together.

Buy a RamJet 350 and have it done right. No offense, but the TPI is an inferior fuel injection system IMO AND I OWN ONE. It is very expensive to modify as the stock TPI is limited on a 350. Remember, the TPI was designed for a 305, but added to the 350 as a last minute thought.
Read up on what it costs to modify the TPI system and many of us WISH it was just a carb. Ever wonder why so many guys want to modify their TPI system? Because the stock TPI is a major bottle neck in developing power.
And lastly, when you DO start to modify a TPI system, then you have the fun of tuning it to get the optimal performance.
If my car had a carb, I would stick with it. Much easier and cheaper to develop HP. With TPI, you don't just add a cam to get more power, like you can with a carb.
