Who here runs the LT4 hotcam?
Who here runs the LT4 hotcam?
How would this combo run?
Fresh L98 shortblock, 9:1 compression, Edelbrock 6085 heads, LT4 hotcam, Stock TPI, 24 lb SVOs with custom prom, slp headers, flowmaster exhaust.
Possibility of future intake upgrades like semi-siamiesed runners and new manifold.
Enough for mid 13s?

It'll run damn rich with those large injectors and no air coming in to feed them. Turn the fuel pressure down to about 40 PSI, and get some intake manifold mods as soon as you can. At least port-match the intake manifold.

I was wondering the same thing. Would it work well with a 92 formula 5.0. check my mods out.

A custom PROM will prevent it from running rich. The biggest problem is that the plenum/runners/intake in stock form will only support 4500 to 4700 RPM. The LT4 Hot cam will make power til 5500 to 6000 RPM. So unless you make the stock equipment breath better, the cam is out of your powerband.

Paul Huryk has some tech articles in the Tech section that really help one understand the numbers for cams. For 4500 to 5000 RPM, stick with a duration @ 0.050 of around 200 to 210. Look for as much lift as the heads will support (from Pauls article). Changing the springs might be necessary. One thing to keep in mind is that the LT4 Hot cam has only 492/492 lift with the stock 1.5 rockers. You can always increase lift by going to 1.6 rockers.

I don't believe the LT-4 Hot Cam and the TPI style intake is a good match. Get a Superram or a Miniram if you want to unleash the power fo the LT-4 Hot Cam.

I'll let you know on Saturday, my engine is going in tomorrow night: ZZ4 short block, Edelbrock 6085 heads, LT4 hot cam, GM 1.6 roller rockers, ported stock TPI, SLP 1 3/4" headers, no cat and a Dynomax cat-back.
I'll let you know how it runs as soon as I do.
