are my injectors too small?
are my injectors too small?
i am asking this because i am runnign lean. i have the fuel pressure set between 48-52 psi. i originally was going to go with the svo 24# but was talked out of that beacuse i would run too"rich" so what size should i get? the only new mods that would occur over the next few months or years would be sportsman II heads and maybe a bigger cam.

Sorry, i guess i left that out duh. Take a look at the Air/ Fuel Monitors. They have one that will read air/fuel raito and injector percent. Just what you need to confirm if in fact you are running lean. This monitor is a lot less expencive the (8) injectors. What do you think !

I'm running 24lb LT1 injectors. Used, they're pretty cheap.

With your mods I'd say you can get away with the SVO 24# provided you have an AFPR and can tweak the pressure just right. Although the 19# SVO's flow more than say the 19# from a 305 because they are measured at a lower pressure, you probably at least need some 24# injectors from an LT1, like RCR said.

I'm no guru when it comes to high performance setups, but your problem is pretty basic. You are running 305 injectors on a bored out 350.
You could either use the 350 injectors with the pressure cranked up, or use the 24# injectors with the pressure turned down (you will have to fine tune). Personally, I would go with the 24# becuase that will leave you more room to grow, because you will eventually grow out of the 22's.

You didn't say when it was running lean. Is it lean all the time & at all throttle positions or just at wide open throttle.
19 lbs/hour injecters are good for up to 250 horsepower at 43.5 PSI fuel pressure. At 60 PSI they will flow enough fuel for 282 hp. The flow rate for 19 lbs/hr injecters at 60 psi is 22.3 lbs/hr.
Also if you haven't done it check your fuel filter.
I once had a fuel pressure guage go bad slowly. I didn't notice it while it happend but over a period of several months it gradually read higher & higher PSI than actual. When my tpi car began to have drivability problems I was scratching my head for a while. I then borrowed a friends fuel pressure guage and checked it compaired to my guage. My guage was showing 55 psi but the other guage showed 23 psi. I put my friends guage back on and adjusted the fuel pressure to 45psi. Drivability returned to normal. I then put my guage back on and it read 85 psi.
I pitched my old guage in the trash and bought a new one.

every few weeks or so i check the plugs and they show a lean condition. i dont know but everyone else with less mods than i have is running 22#'s and up. most of the time the fuel press is set between 55-60 psi. the fuel filter is replaced evry october, so it is new.
