I have the MSD 6A installed in my 86 Trans AM 355 TPI. I nee dto know what part I need to prevent the tach from Jumping around under hard acceleration.

The MSD tach adapter will prevent that. Its ugly FYI.

Check the archives, there is something about the jumping tach, and Im not sure if someone had traced down what the tach filter was on the cars that dont appear to have one. I never found anything besides wire, and I traced the line all the way from the dist. to the tach itself.

 

Its not ugly. It looks like a red square with MSD on the top.
Look next to passenger side strut. The little red box Thats it

Then they must have changed it. Mine is an ugly *** POS, looks like something from a yard sale.

 

I would double check your installation...My 86 Tac works just fine without any filter or special hookups.

Mine works fine to except for WOT it likes to jump around in the upper RPMs

 

Try routing the tach wire away from spark plug wires.... Are your plug wires new/old/unknown? I had a set that was causing a lot of ignition "noise" and put a good set in. Took care of the problem.

 

I have the old style ugly tach adapter I'll sell for 15 bucks shipped to your door...(as long as you are US).

My 6AL went in without any adapters...I had the tach jumping problem, but it ended up being my ignition module was bad.

86 Trans Am 355 TPI Rebuilt 700R4 with Corvette servo, modified valve body, and a B&M Torque Converter (2000 rpm stall w/ lock up), 87 350 block bored .30 with new crank. Reworked 305 heads with 3-angle valve job. Added in the rebuild was an SLP TPI cam, BBK 58mm Throttle Body,MSD 6A, Hypertech Power Coil, 1.5 Crane roller tipped rocker arms, SLP Intake Runners and Port matching in upper intake including fully ported plenum, TPIS adjustable fuel pressure regulator @ 46psi, Hooker shorty style headers w/ Thermotech heat wrapping, Custom 3” exhaust with Flowmaster muffler and chrome quad tips, Hypertech Thermomaster Computer chip, K&N open element cone filter on modified MAF per TPIS specs, MSD Wires, removal of A/C hardware and added a 1LE firewall cover installed.
