Get rid of the peanut Cam.

Just to let you all know I did a cam change over the past few months. I also ported the plenum, intake, and runners; installed a true roller timing chain, and a AFPR. The cam is out of lt-1 motor, specs@.50 418/430, 194/199, lsa 111. O'man what a difference, the car pulls to about 5200 insteed of 4500, power you can feel. So if you are crused with the peanut cam, get rid of it. Track opens on March 31 let you know what happens.

As much as I love small duration camshafts I have to agree. The peanut is great for emissions and fuel mileage but terrible for power.

I mic'd mine at only .225" lift (intake)at the lobe which equates to only .337" lift at the valve (less than the advertised .350" intake lift).
I never even bothered checking duration with a degree wheel because it was being replaced anyway.
I still keep the camshaft in a box in case I ever have trouble passing an emissions test.

What LT1 engine is that out of? A Caprice or Impala? Thats not a C/F or Corvette cam. Congrats on your swap!

Those specs look like an aftermarket L98 replacement cam from Crane or someone like that. Those specs (durateion) in fact are smaller than the L98 SD cam. Lift is about the same but it has a narrow LSA.

I do not believe it is a GM cam as GM tends to use a wider LSA (114-117) on its cams.

It's a stock GM hyd roller cam. I know.... I have one in my '94 Caprice LT1 9C1.

The cam specs are .418"/.430" 191d/196d i/e at the valve with (stock ratio) 1.5 rockers. The LSA is 111.5 d.

The cam was used in ALL B (Caprice, Roadmaster, Impala SS) and D (Fleetwood) body LT1 engines, 1994-1996 model years. The 1996 cam specs are a little different (.414"/.428" lift) but essentially the same.

I think the same cam is, or was, used on some of the L31 Vortecs 1996-1999 and perhaps on some of the present crate engines. A quick look at GM Powertrain website and/or SDPC will confirm this.

The F/Y car cams LT1 and LT4 are different in that they have more lift and duration, but larger LSA.

I have suggested the use of the Bcar 94-96 LT1 cam as a replacement for LO3 and LO5 pre-1994 Caprice owners, and I'm glad to see it being used as a modest & inexpensive Fcar replacement cam here. FYI.

Now can anyone help ME find the thread that showed the photos of the Vortec to TPI base manifold mismatch? I thought they used to be here, but I've searched to infinity and beyond with no luck. TIA.

'94 LT1 9C1, 4400# and 14.96 @ 92.5 mph corrected for MSL, basically stock, dual kid seats, cooler, trunk gear, 7X6 spotlamp, TU6 Caddy flash-to-pass, 6J6 deck lights, and this spring, the Astrovan overhead console.

Then what are the specs of the LT1 Cams in the Y/F bodies?
