whats the biggest cam that would be ran thay will still pass emmissions "the sniffer test"? im lookin to do a head cam swap and i want to go all out on my 91 l-98 motor with a lot of bolts ons....not a DD

 

Just about anything 230 or less will pass emissions if you know how to tune your own computer. If you dont, you're not going to get a cam bigger than 210 to work with the stock computer.

 

well im in the prosses of learnin with tunnerpro rt and the ostrish. im havin some help from a buddy and we seem to be gettin the motor runnin much better then it was befor. im runnin a 212-218 cam now and i plan in upgreadin in the future.....just would like to know how big i can go with it and still pass. this will be the 3rd cam in the motor since the rebuild and i dont want to do it a 4th time!!

 

I have a 238-248 608 lift solid roller by Comp cams and had no problem at a test only smog station

 

it will all depend on the tune and stuff. i have heard guy passing basic smog tests with cams as big as the cc306 which is 230/244 or something along those lines.

 

what would be the biggest XFI cam i would want to go with you guys think? ill have a fully ported TPI setup and down the road would like to do the super ram setup i think! i would like to puch my truck into the 12s w/o n2o!

 

Jerry, you need to mention thats a cam in a 415ci engine. It's a little different in a 350.

The XFI280 would be the largest I would put in a 350, but mine is a daily driver.

 

for tpi, a few members here had good success with the 268 XFI cam. made power to 5500rpms for sure and could be shifted at 6 grand

 

Hey Jerry whats the LSA on that cam.

 

1989GTATransAm has the XFI268 and on the dyno it's making peak hp at 6100rpms.
