stock cam has higher lift then aftermarket???
i have searched and searched but couldint find anything. i was reading the stock cam lift and duration #'s and was looking at upgrading the cam in my 88 lb9 in my s-10. specs in my sig
i was considering the crane powermax 2011 becuae it is pretty much what I have for a recomendation. It sais on my stock cam that I have
207/213.415/.430.443/.459117deg88-89 350,305
and the crane cam is
104104184/204.384/.429.410/.458108degNone
how will I gain any power?? and what is the largest cam I can fit with NO headwork?? I seen 480. 454. 424. when searching? which is correct??
any help would be well apreciated

Not exactly sure which Powermax cam you're talking about there but here's a very mild flat tappet Powermax hydraulic and it's still got signficantly more lift than stock:

That one above is practically a stock replacement cam. The next step up in the Powermax line would be something like this:

i have a roller motor not flat tappet. heres the link to the cam I posted
http://cranecams.com/?show=browsePar...tType=camshaft
it sais in the tpi cam section that my stock cam has a higher lift and duration over the aftermarket cams that I was looking at is this true??
I plan on porting my stock base, plenum and runners along with a regulator.

Re: stock cam has high lift then aftermarket???
The 1988 LB9 without G92 is going to have the Peanut roller camshaft. That is 179/194 @ .050, .350/.385", on a 109* LSA installed at 106 ICL. I don't know of a smaller aftermarket cam for a small block.
I put a LT4 roller cam in my 305. 282/277 @ .004, 203/210 @ .050, .446/.449 w 1.5:1 rocker (came with a 1.6:1 rocker from the factory, bumping lift to .476/.479). It is on a 115* LSA installed at 106* ICL.
WORLD of difference for a $40.00 cam.

Being from an Automatic transmission, assuming the engine is still like it came from the factory, it IS the PEANUT cam, no doubt about it.
I am running the PRODUCTION LT4 cam, NOT the HotCam. I am running a set of self-align full roller rockers with it.

Re: stock cam has high lift then aftermarket???
how bad did that run on stock tuning or good however you c it fast?
i've got a 89 5 spd, and i was planning on a slightly larger comp cam but, for 50$ bux i may stick to the lt4 cam. My engine is a 5 speed and already has 22# injectors so i'd expect that would be adequate.
what do you need to do to make that cam work on the factory heads? I know most say you can only get by with .460to .480 lift with factory heads before you have clearence issues but, is there another way to gain like .030in while still leaving the heads on (no machine work).
