Re: how many horses do you think with this combo
My guess would be around 260-265 as well. Similar to my setup as you know. I ran 14.19 at 97mph with stock cam, stock convertor, crappy 2.77 gears and weighing 3300lbs. You may just crack the 13sec zone as you are.
Is your cam in yet? If so, how does it sound with the 3" catback?

actually we ran into a head gasket problem while we were changing the springs... its seems that the reason why we had soo many problems with the car is because the heads need rebuilding..... the cam is in but now were are rebuilding the heads....

Re: how many horses do you think with this combo
u really didnt change all that much, u did simple bolt ons besides the cam, the cam is low lift i would think maybe 20 hp from the cam bc of the heads. the exhuast is worth 20hp. but your gears are not a good choice, 3.73 is wayyyyyy to low a gear for a TPI setup.... especially a stock TPI, maybe with a modified but u gotta remember that 3.73 is steep and is gona take u outa ur powerband real quick, ur peak power will be 4800-4900.
the other things like cold air intakes etc are minimul depending on ur system, u woulda taken full advantage of the SLP with a higher flowing TPI intake. im not sure if u had 225hp stock bc the 87 formula said 225 stock but i can tell u it was more like 210-215hp unlike the camaro that had 225 bc the firebirds had a more restrictive intake ducting. firebirds would gain the most from an aftermarket cold air system bc of this. so with your SLP cold air u prob gained 10-15hp which would put u at 225-230hp.
ur not gona get any traction off the line with the 3.73s i got stock 3.27 and with the 700r4's 3.06 first gear i never get traction. im guessing ur gona be high 13's low 14s depending on ur suspension and weight.
switching to 3.42 or even 3.23 will help u more than the 3.73. they match the 3.42 to aftermarket TPI systems and its a good combo

Re: how many horses do you think with this combo
stock heads/intake..... hmmm...
port the stock heads, new springs, port the hell outa the intake, 1.6rr. thats about it mabye even a off the shelf performance chip or a custom burn. other than that the only thing u can do is weight savings and suspension. since ur rebuilding the heads i would def throw a 120$ port job at them and a 3 degree valve intake cut. that will help with the power.... port that plenum and base and u can get even more maybe 25-30 more HP. add 1.6rr and thats 10-15hp more too.

Re: how many horses do you think with this combo
thats what i said!!! the stockers are nothing special... even the corvette aluminum heads are poop compared to the vortec stockers.
ur never gona be making good power wiht the stock heads.
smartest thing i ever heard was... "put a good cam with cr@ppy heads and u got cr@p, but put great heads on a cr@ppy cam and u got power"
the cam is the brain of the motor but the heads are the muscle.

Sounds all good. I have seen the world products and dart (i think) iron heads for sale at summit. I wonder how good these are. They seen pretty well priced, especially compared to aluminium.

Re: how many horses do you think with this combo
which heads are u talking about? vortecs... u need to machine the valve guide boss for larger springs and screw in studs is a very good idea. i believe the stockers need just a spring upgrade, maybe some machining, elonggating the pushrod hole, and screw in studs.
and iron heads are good heads... not everything has to be aluminum. i wouldnt get world sportsman IIs they supposidly dont flow as much as vortecs do. RHS is a good company with lots of iron heads for cheap, Dart, u really just need to search around a pick a head thats gona give u the performance u want and for a price your willing to pay. summit sells aluminum heads now for 800-900 i believe now assembled to .550 lift i think, so does larrys performance, and a ton of ppl on ebay.

Re: how many horses do you think with this combo
well im gonna use my stock heads... i have some springs that will support .501 lift.... my crane cam with 1.6 rockers would be 485/496.. would i be okay with that or would i need the machine shop modify the heads to accept that kinda lift..

Re: how many horses do you think with this combo
thats alil too close for comfort.... i wouldnt put those springs on with that lift. i would get springs that would give me .550 lift just to be safe.
im not totally sure wat machining would have to be done. but i dont think u have to do any... i believe upgraded Z28 springs and light weight LT4 retainers i believe that was wat everyone was doing to upgrade the heads to accept the higher lift.
i dont think they sell that spring/retainer combo anymore but i believe scoggin has something out that is similar and will give u simular results.
