a hybrid tpi idea

i can get an edelbrock efi system for like 100 bucks or so. this one http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku so my idea is put this on my MAF tpi motor but take the MAP sensor off and run this with my stock MAF computer. my thinking is that this will have great intake flow like a 4 barrel carb but with the tuned port aspect. so i figure this will give me excellent flow all around especially above 4500rpms where the tpi dies. this will be going on with 22ib lt1 injectors, zz4 cam(1.6 intake rockers), ported heads, headers-back on a 305.

Re: a hybrid tpi idea

That intake will flow better than your TPI, no question about that. Your MAF system will work fine with it, Fast355 ran a great MAF TBI setup for a while.

There will be NO tuned port aspect when you swap the intake, the tuned ports ARE your current intake. It doesn't matter to me, but to some people it does.

Sounds like a good plan, let us know how it goes!

Re: a hybrid tpi idea

That intake should flow enough to SUPPORT 400 hp or so. That means the rest of the engine has to be able to make that power and your intake won't hold you back. I doubt in stock configuration it will do much by itself.

You will lose a little bottom end but gain in the mid and upper end. Do you want a pickup or a Firebird? This is a good thing! I would further sacrifice a little more bottom end and run some 1 3/4" headers with your cam/intake/fuel setup. Make sure you work on your heads, at least a little, to see your gains fully.

Re: a hybrid tpi idea

tpi heads flow almost 200 cfm on the intake side but far less on the exhaust side like 135 cfm or something if you do head work focus on the exhaust side or just find a different set of heads that flow better

Re: a hybrid tpi idea

ive decided on getting 416s and porting those up as far as i can. also i already have headman shorty headers which are 1 5/8ths i think they come so im not about to change those. how much power can i expect from my combo? and how far will i be able to run the stock crank, rods, pistons up to rpm wise with this combo?

Re: a hybrid tpi idea

5,500rpms is all the more i'd go but, u will get many conflicting responses on this i would suspect.

btw make sure you put a cam in it or the better heads won't help much at all.

mild cam, factory headed (with work), properly tuned 305 can run 250-325hp i'd say as a good starting point. Exact power would depend on cam choice, ammount of work done to the heads, and most of all tuning.
