more power for my 305 tpi

Hey guys,
the last few month I was thinking about how to get more power under my camaros hood.
I came to the conclusion that an ls1 swap will be the best...
BUT, till I will have the money and the brakes and the sfc and... I plan to modify my 89ī 305 tpi, 190hp. (other headers, but donīt know which ones. were on the car as I bought it)
And who knows, perhaps Iīm so happy with it and Iīll keep it for a longer time.

The motor has 165k on it but looks and run like a new one!!!

So my plan is to to get at least 300hp out of it if itīs possible.

I read so much about the 305 and 350 are the same, only other heads so put them on and you have more power, others sait thatīs totally bullsh**...

So I please you to help me what to do to get more power.
Suggestions in part# (heads,intake,ignition...) and where I can get it

Give me all your knowledge.

Thanks Rob

Food for thought. If you are trying to get 300hp out of the engine that was designed for under 200 and since you are saving your money currently for a new engine swap.. Why not just wait until you have your engine to work with. A good LS1 will give you considerable more power to play with and you will be real close to 300 hp anyway.

ahhh i see nice to see people in germany sporting american vehicles . as for street legal, it isn't where i live either. but you can have it in your car just not flowing in the engine

Believe me the ls1 wonīt stay stock for a long time.

I see you did lots of specs, do you have any suggestions for me? I have to do most of the mods myself, because there is no us-car-dealer near me.
What do you think about other heads, cam, and so on???

@ Nater2491

Yes I love Chevrolet sice Iīve been a child! That Camaro I was waiting for 10 years, I will never sell it!!!

I would say, a new cam, springs, 1.6 rockers, push rods, Timing gear and chain, heads, ported plenum, new intake & runners, updated ignition, and have it tuned. You should be pretty close.

Re: more power for my 305 tpi

Cam , springs , rockers , gear & chain , heads , new intake & runners with ignition upgrade and don't forget adjustable fuel pressure regulator and injectors .
Depending on quality of parts ( cast or aluminum heads ) and where you buy them , your going to spend a good chunk of money , add it up and see how far you could be towards buying a LS1 , remember the heads , headers , cam , ignition .... pretty much everything will not swap to the LS1.

Ok I think youīre right itīs too much money for just a little fun... All that stuff will be around 4k $. I save the money for the real swap. I think for just the kick at some time nitrous will be the best. Even itīs not legal on our streets.

Re: more power for my 305 tpi

Nitrous is a great choice but it has its cons too , do some research in the power adder section .
Do you know if your car is still running the factory fuel injectors ?
I replaced mine at 150,000 and it made a HUGE difference , and fuel is critical with nitrous , if you run too lean with NOS very bad things happen .

Re: more power for my 305 tpi

Tuning these modified engines can be tricky without a shop to help you out. Especially an LS1 swap. I would consider a high performance 350 carb. setup, might be easier. Fuel injection can be tricky, complicated, and down right frustrating when things dont go smooth. But on the other hand, nothing beats them when it all works out!.

Hi, yes I can imagine that wonīt be easy but itīs my personal challenge

And another reason is that so many people discouraged me from a carb swap not least because of emission I have to pass here in germany.

@ cameron7710

I already have headers... What exhaustsystem do suggest? I think flowmaster is good.
But they wonīt give much performance, only in sound.
