I'm looking a buying a late 80s Trans Am with a 305 TPI. I was wondering for you guys that have one if the insurance company sees this car a high performance (meaning higher premiums)? I just want know before I get my heart set this car.

budd lake NJ,, hahahhhaaa,, "29th street"
anyway when i had the 88 GTA under my name with no tickets on my record i was paying $2400 a year , thats only liability(no theft, no fire, no nothin)
I LOVE NY
it all depends on your state.
just call up some insurance companies before you buy the car,, its that easy. call everyone in the phone book and take the cheapest.

what!! is that with all of your family, how much did you add? I live in NJ too and my dad says if the cost is to high the car is gonna go, it has a blown 305 and we have not insured it yet. I will only be getting liability and comprehesive, you know compaany pays for other guy not me and if a tree are a deer smakes into my car.

yeah but for some reason NJ is the highest state in the countrey AND most of the insurance compaines have pulled out and it only leaves a few so they can all jack up their rates. It sucks Royally! I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE I START ON THE 350TPI, if it is too high I will have to sell and for that I will stick a running 305 and sell it. Save me money and work. I need to know.

hey man that right about states though, 420 is just what I pay now in florida after all the tickets have had a few years to clear.
I used to live in NY and had a LOT of tickets and I paid
dum dum dum...
4500 a year (assigned risk NY state pool)
the only way I could get insurance after all my tickets was to pay that much.
dont believe me -- call NY central Mutual and ask them what the monthly minimum is for your Fbody in assigned risk pool and theyll tell ya -- 700 a month.

I have progessive, I'm paying 170 dollars a month. But when I first got my drivers lisc. at 16. (now 19) I had 3 accidents in the same month in the course of 2 weeks. So mine are high anywayz, so I figured 20 extra bucks, so what, I'll get the v8!!

Hate to tell you this, I am 28, no tix, LAST year I paid $687 a YEAR for full coverage & $11,000 appraised value to boot. KEEP IN MIND that was an 87 Formula with the 4BBL. NOW, I bought the same Identical car, but it had the TPI I think it is about $200 more a YEAR.
As for Engine Mods, the ins company has nooo idea, That is why I converted my 4BBL over to TPI, they dont know enough to charge me more for my engine. All your premiums go by that little VIN tag on your windshield. if you start with a VIN code of 8 and have a Trans AM, beware, Firebirds & Camaros are cheeper. and a 305 TPI, 305 TBI, 305 4BBL then V6 is the order of most to least expensive insurance.
Hope this helps

first off if you need to know call an insurance agency like i said,,
secondly, i dont think it matters between 305 and 350s,, a V8 is a V8 to insurance companies.. not absolutely sure though
INSTAED OF LOGGING ON TO THIRDGEN, JUST OPEN A YELLOWPAGES AND CALL, , its that easy.

I pay more money for having a formula instead of a firebird. Both V8s, guess it depends on the company.
