Hey guys,

I know this is a popular mod with alot of literature on the
matter here at TGO. But, my concern was left unanswered.

I have a solid weekend to do an intake job and get the
Ford 24#'s in there with no time to spare. My build has
been running lean since the get-go. Finally pulling the
19lb injectors off of the (once a 305) 350.

Installation of the Fords into the fuel rail with the c-clips,
pretty straight foward?.. Will I have any issues getting them
to seat properly? AZTPI said it's a direct replacement.

It is imperative that the swap is a successful one, my
daily driver will be needed on Monday night @ 10:00.

Ive had no prior expriences with the Fords, hence my concern.

Ill have car going in for a tune, I have a future cam going in
before spring time. So, nows the time to get some more fuel.

don't worry, it is a straight forward swap. one piece of advice....get the gm o-rings for them. i've heard the ford o-rings are smaller in diameter. this could have changed but just in case.....

also, some say you don't need to use the clips that they were only for assembly at the factory. i tried it without the clips and had problems with leaks. just wanted to give ya a heads up on that.

the swap can be done in an afternoon if you are familiar with the tpi intake removal.

 

Yea, thanks for the heads-up on the c-clips, Ill put them in.
Leaks are unacceptable.. The car runs now, Id hate to take it
apart and have a whole new set of problems besides running lean.

Im very familar with the TPI intake process, It seems daunting
to the unintiated. And ..that Im far beyond, haha.

I can have it done and sealed in hours and properly cured
overnight for a test drive.

Ill snag a set of GM O-rings for peace of mind!

I put a little oil on the orings to ease the installation.

 

As a newbe to the TPI I did the ford 24# swap used the same orings clips (GM) no leaks. The injectors were a one for one swap. Took me awhile to understand that all the TPI bolts need to be tight. Quite the vaccuum leak. bad idle ect... Got in a hurry working in poor light. After tightening the half loose bolts everything worked as it should. LAL. I am running a stock chip BUA 22# inj cont. Idle is alittle rich but no flooding or fouled plugs.

 

Yep, its a direct swap. The Ford injectors are a tad shorter than GM ones so you do need to use the clips or they will leak. Also yes, use the GM o-rings as the Fords are smaller. Motor oil on the orings does help installation. Good luck with the swap, I think you'll find its a piece of cake.

Im bout half way through it now, scrubbing the intake maniflold
flanges as we speak! I cant wait to fire it up, and pull it a few times!

 

To get full benefits, be sure to edit you bin file to reflect the bigger injectors.
I used a set of the same injectors on a Ramjet installation.
If you look at the tops really good, most all of the Ford units have a Bosch emblem on the other side from the Ford emblem.
Bosch is good.
They are a tad shorter, so like he said, use the clips.

 

maybe a dumb question, but since the injectors are shorter, will they leak at all? is it really a good idea to go with shorter injectors?

also what is the benifit of going to the ford injectors, is it price or are they just better?

 

As far as I knew, it was suppose to be a price thing. However back when I went to get my 24# injectors, the Fords were more. I got my Accels off Summit and have nothing but great performance and many of miles for nearly 2 yrs. Some folks had said the accels were a lesser injector, but since installing mine I've run into lots of TPI owners running Accel who've had the same positive feedback as myself. I'm glad I swapped new ones in regardless, the old ones were brittle and IMO weren't worth rebuilding. New injectors are a cheap way to liven things up again.

 

i personally have had bad experiences with accel, so im going to stay away from there products and go for the ford injectors, looking for the GM o-rings from which I hear are a neccessity for the ford injectors i came across these from summit

Tons of people with bad accell stories. Plenty with good ones too, but too many bad for me to risk.

The Ford's are a price/quality issue.

The shorter injectors (probably) are never the cause of people having leaks, at least when installed properly with the clips. Remember, it's not like no one ever has leaks with stock injectors!!!!

As for the O-rings, from what I've read, earlier Ford Injecotrs did have slightly smaller O-rings. I did my Ford Injector swap this past month, and the O-ring diameter was the same. My stock injector orings seemed to be in good shape, AND they seemed fatter, so I used 'em, just to be safe. ....if they'd been cracked, I wouldn't have hesitated to use the Ford Orings.

 

Just did this swp myself and YES!!! Replace the O-rings top and Bottom. I did the bottom but not the top and it leaked. Put on the ne GM o-rings perrrrrrrs like a kitten and no leaks.
