ok, i know the stock HP is rated at 220 i think. or something around there. BUT, i was reading a car and driver article and they said that they thought it had ALOT more, and i quote "more like 270 HP".. and i'v heard other people say that its more then 220. so does anyone know for a FACT wut it is?

OK, at the crank (which is the horsepower manufacturers provide) the 350 was rated at 220 for '87, 240 for '88 (maybe 230 for 88, I'm drawing a blank) and 89, and 245 for 90-92. Real wheel HP is anywhere between 180 and 200. I think somebody on this board came out with 192 on a stock L98.

Mo is right. After correcting I get 197 hp and 265 torque. The dyno passes were made in Drive. I also have a Corvette converter (2100 stall) that was put in by a GM dealership in 1991. I just have to get the rear brakes adjusted to hold it. At 1600 rpm the rears break loose while trying to launch.

173.3 rwhp 144,000 km stock 305 at 91 degrees so a stock low mileage 350 should be considerably higher

I might go, but dunno if I'm gonna race. The faster car (Civic) has not been upgraded (fuel pump) to meet the now higher NOS loads.
I took the TA today to TriState and the air was thick!

guys i dont think you can really use gm's stock ratings, they have always been known for conservative ratings, mostly to prevent people getting pissed when their car dynos at 1 hp less than the rating or something like that. for instance my boss's (dealership owner) base corvette, which is rated at 350 hp, dynoed at 383 horses...just a thought

Believe it or not two "identical" engines from the factory can put out very different horsepower and torque ratings. Even the manufacturers will admit that every once in a while a "real good one rolls of the line." Sounds like that Vette was one of them

Don't forget the 1989 Turbo Trans Am, rated at 250 horses, and it really put out over 300. Of corse GM did this because there is a unwritten rule, no passenger car will be rated with a higher HP of that year's corvette.
