to all you built and turbo motor guys. help!
Hey guys i am in a bind right now as to what i want to do with the car i have right now
. what i have now is a 305 TPI in an 89 formula firebird. what my perdicument is is that i dont know what to go with. i have went from just turboing the 305 TPI that i have in the car now, to putting a stock 350 in the car, to wanting to build a 350. i dont know which would be best for my car. i would love to just turbo the motor in my car now but the 305 isnt a very good motor when it comes to power. and i know that the 350 stock had a decent amount of power stock. now let me say now that this is my DD so i dont want an extreme motor. but i dont want a motor that has no power. what i am looking for is somewhere in between 250 and 300 horse to the wheels. i would be more than happy with that. so if you could just lend me some suggestions that would be a great help. i know that people will say to do the resarch and look around. but i dont really have the time to look and do hours of research will all the stuff i have going on. i want to do this during a vacation when i have time so i want to get what i need now and when that time comes around start the project. thanks for taking the time to read this.
oh when it comes to the 350 motor i have a guy in florida willing to sell me a 350 with rolling internals for 400 and i live in SC but the motor has 120k on it. would it be a waist of time to buy this motor. right now the first thing on the list to be knocked out is the paint and when i finish that i want to start in the motor situation.

Motor first ... then paint.
No sense in running the risk of scratching your new paint doing a motor pull.

my advice would to be get a 350 from a junk yard, and get some forged pistons (cast crank and rods should be fine) and put a turbo on it. You can utilize a near stock stall size, wont need to swap out gears, and it will sound dead stock with a 218-224 dur cam. Plus it will easilly put down 450 rwhp and be pretty good on gas.

And the moral of the story is:
Do your research and find out what is the most effective method (time, money, mechanical skill etc) for you to achieve the vision you have for your car. The options are many and you will get many different suggestions. You also have to consider the rest of the car. All of the power in the world is worth nothing, if you can't put it to the ground, or if the rest of your drive train blows up.

350. because with a turbo sized to a 350 you would be hard pressed to find one that will only make 300 wheel hp. you need a large exh housing. and that will prety much require a larger intake housing. and more power.
evan if you could get a 60-1 turbo to work as a single turbo app. id say the exh housing would still be too small. and the turbo would want to make 450-550 wheel. so. still not small enough.

for that low of power you dont have to do alot(hell camaro performers did that with a top end package on a 305 actually was 380 something horsepower) however if you want the most cost productive option get the 350 ho crate motor its a turn key engine and is 3900 bucks with pleanty of room for improvement and its 330 hp and 380 ft lbs of torque, hell turbo that if you want with some meth injection at a later date for one hell of a ride
