hi guys i have a question for you when my car idles the engine starts to smoke looks like its coming from the drivers side rear of the engine i also have what appears to be white exhust which might mean coolant is leaking into the engine the last things i did to the car while it has been sitting in the garage was paint the valve covers and ditch the smog pump and its hoses. can anybody help me figue this out? thanks by the way it a 91 350 firebird

crap man,i knew what i was going to tell you but my mind went blank. I know because this happened to my car. o-well, if i think of it ill hit you back.
Couple thing to check
- oil squirting on the manifold smokes and has a bad smell
If your exhaust manifold if loose from you messing with it you could have a exhaust leak, wich would explain smoke also.

 

Have you done anything else to the car recently? Did you remove the metal smog lines from behind the block? Maybe you touched the manifolds so the oil from your hands is burning off.

When you rev the engine in park, will water come out of the tail pipes? Does the smoke smell sweet? You could have a broken intake or head gasket, or maybe even a cracked head/block.

 

yes i did remove the smog lines from the block the exhust does not smell sweet though
