should i get my heads milled?

They are trick flow 23* with the 64CC. Should I get it down to like 60cc or 58? and how much does it cost? Thanks.

Are they warped? If not, I'd leave them alone. 64cc isn't a bad chamber volume to work with. If you mill them down to 58cc, and if you ever overheat the motor (shiznit happens) and the heads become warped, they may end up in the trash. Keeping it at 64cc gives you a cushion.

I'm not saying milling them is a bad idea, its a great way to bump up compression ratio, but when your a po white boi like me, you should consider the consequences.

I was going to ask the same thing too since I am considering the 23* heads. By keeping the heads at 64cc I think some compression will be lost. I'm sure that's why mkos is asking about milling them. Going to 58cc would effectively raise the compression back up to 9.5 or 10:1.
What to do??

The heads being junk after being warped once milled is a worst case scenario, but just keep in mind that heads are not like a block. You can't just re-sleeve it and start over. Once its gone, its gone. I know several people that had there heads milled to 58cc and have had no problems. Just keep the motor nice and cool and an eye on the temp gauge.

i was wondering the same thing--getting new afr's and thinking of getting them milled to 58cc so the compression ratio is the same as a factory corvette.maybe i'll just go to 62 and leave a few thousanths just in case.

You could go with 60cc's and use a thin head gasket. 60cc'c should leave you enough for future re-builds.

Sorry, didn't mean to cause nationwide panic. I just rarely see an aluminum head come back off a car completely flat, and you always want room to work with. Honestly, I don't know how far you can safely mill down an AFR or Twisted Wedge head, but once you start going smaller than 58cc your compression might get "unstreatable".

Ask the manufact tech guys, and they'll give their opinion on they're heads. The AFRs have a 3/4 inch deck, so milling #s will b different. Also use gaskets that don't 'brinell' the Al head. The thinner gasket is the way to go.
