Anyone using the cc306 cam?

Just wondering how you like it,And if any of you have any track times with different combos?

I'm putting together a Minirammed 383(6"rod)with Wiseco Forged pistons 10.3:1/67cc and AFR 190 or 195 heads(undecided, pending on rest of parts)I was thinking about this cam?Does anyone recommend anything smaller? Car is not a daily driver and has a 5 speed trans(dont go there i'm getting a TREMEC TKO.lol)I'm also getting into prom burning so by the time I finish the engine(probably end of summer early fall)everything should be strait.

Oh,cam is 230/240 .510 .540 112LSA W/1.5R

I don't have any personal experience with that cam but I know the LT-1 guys love it. I think it's also similar to the cam Traxion is using. That combo sounds pretty nasty Oh, and that stereo (92camaro) I bought from you last year works perfectly, thanks

Acceld Z,Glad to hear the stereo worked out good for you. I was checking out the LT1 boards yesterday and they definately think highly of it.With good reason too,the power they are getting with the cam is unreal.i just about have the bottom end completed.I just need to decide on heads and cam.All opinions are welcomed....the only thing set in stone is I will be using a Miniram Intake,Wiseco pistons 10.3:1/67cc,H beam 6"rods(stroker clearanced)and Scat Internally balanced 383 crank.

I will be running a Miniram/CC306 combo next year on my 350. I've also read on the LT1 boards that the Comp Cams XE 230/236 cam is a good cam for slightly better midrange power than the 306 and gives up little top end to the 306, but supposedly it wears out the valvetrain faster because of its aggresive ramps. They also say power drops off faster after peak power with the XE cams than with the 306.

But it seems like the CC306 is the way to go if you wanna make sick power NA and without going to a solid roller.

Yeah,i heard about the high wear associated with the XE cams...if I don't go cc306 i was also thinking the ccc305 isn't bad.It has good idle quality and is very streetable but i was told that the 306 will act the same in a 383 as the cc305 would in a 350 so i'm still undecided...

I'd get a pretty stout/lightweight valvetrane to go with the 306 cam. For just my puny LPE "219" cam I use an AFR HydraRev kit, titanium retainers, and Comp ProMags to avoid tossing lifters and valve float.

We put the cc306 that was custom ground for more lift by GTP in houstin a couple of mos. The cam was installed in a 97 lt1 SS. I wouldn't run it in a long tube set up but it is bad none the less.

PS: the base circle on the cam was ground down to make the lift .634 intake
.644 exhaust with 1.6:1 rockers

the valve timing is set just right that he had a .200 clearance inbetween the valve and the piston. with 2.02,1.60 valves

Don't worry I'll be using a Miniram on it...most of the LT1 guys are getting well over 400RWHP with the combo......I just ordered my CC306 Cam,R-Lifters,and Pro-Magnum Rockers from Nu-Tek.They had a helluva deal going on.......
Of course now I have to locate a new block, the machine shop called me last week and said it had a hairline crack around one of the main caps....but he might be able to find me a new block,if not I'll wait till I move at the end of the month and then find one.

My friend purchesed the package with the stage II heads and the 6 cam (which is the comp 306 that is custom ground) and they said that he would probably be making arround 425hp with that combo. He has taken it to the track once and got 12.80@119mph whith the combo on his street tires he is affraid to run his drag radials or power shift the car becuz he still has the stock rear. He is still trying to get use to the car reving as fast as it does.

Where can one get this cam? And how would it run in a MR ZZ4 motor. Would the springs have to be changed?

Comp Cams sells the regular version and GTP sells the modifyed version.Yes you would definatly have to change the springs in the vortecs /fastburns to run this cam.

Personally I don't think that the 306 is the cam to go with if you are using AFR heads. Look at the exhaust duration. It has 10 more degs duration than the intake. A much longer exhaust duration is normally used to compensate for a poor intake to exhaust ratio. This is generally not the problem with AFR's. They have a great exhaust port. I would recommend a Comp custom ground cam. This can be ordered directly through Comp Cams. My suggestion would be a Comp Extreme Energy Hyd roller 230/230@.050-.544/.544 lift ground on a 112 lsa. A much longer exhaust duration coupled with a wider lsa tends to push the peak HP up in the rpm range. Last year I ran a Comp XE HR 230/236@.050 .544/.555 112lsa 4 degs adv.
With an 11-1 comp 383 afr's and a MiniRam, peak HP came in at 6500 RPM. This is getting into shaky ground with a HR cam. HR lifters tend to float valves at these kind of rpm's. Either way if you decide on the 306, use titanium retainers and HR rev kit.
