Taking off the Fuel Rail sure is FUN ! PIC INSIDE
I have 3 bad injectors so I took off the rail tonight.
The bolt that holds the fuel lines on at the front of the block is really fun to get at !!! (it was easier to remove the water neck)
I was able to remove the EGR and and get the Rail out without removing the intake runner on the pass side !
I'm installing 8 new 19lb Ford injectors !
* Yes, I know it needs cleaning....but, Hell, I just bought it last Monday and it broke 4 days later !

Since you essentially got the top end apart, remove the other runner.
It only takes a few minutes to put everything back together if you know
the sequence of events. I say, invest in a few cans of aluminum paint.
If it were me and the car wasnt my daily driver, id spend a weekend
cleaning it up! Id rip the intake, water pump off, the belt tensioner and
paint the intake, belt tensioner, pulleys and the water neck. The alternator
is rather funky as it is, id just let it burn up!
and, if I had a spare hundred some odd bucks, id get some tall deck
chrome valve covers while your at it! After you done, the car will unrecognizable
to the original owner i bet!
anyway, enough of my mouth!
Get to work!

^^ agreed ^^ some extra time, elbow grease and paint could make that a gem. hell just remove the acc. mounts and paint that too. the tall deck valve covers are a good thought too. especially if you get some aluminum ones, theyll help keep the oil on the valvetrain cool as well (plus you can nab some roller rockers online and then your set
) good luck, doing the tune up shtuff on mine tomorrow as well!

Ah, been there man. I suggest next time you take the knock sensor out from under block long enough to drain more coolant so you don't get green crap dripping everywhere.

Don't paint the intake. Media blast it. Looks cleaner and you don't have to worry about carb cleaner messing up the paint.

When you put that thing back together could you get a pic of where your Manifold Air Temp Sensor MAT or sometimes called Idle Air Temp IAT sensor hooks into the harness. Ive been trying to find this forever cant seem to find it. Heres a pic of mine and the wire coming off of it.
and
Good luck with the rest of the fuel injector changeoever

Mines about 18" long and comes off the back of the upper plenum and it heads over towards the brake booster.
Its not 'in' any harness, it runs all by its self !

I put the new Ford injectors in and pressurized the fuel system 'before' the upper plenum and no leaks at all.........I wanted to make sure since I've heard about a few people having these leak.

Well I'm all finished - and 'wow', does this thing idle smooth !
I am amazed at the difference in the idle quality and throttle response.
For people that have the stock style injectors, I did nothing except change them to the Ford 19lb 'yellow top' style and what a difference.
Well worth the work I spent on it.
