HELP!! wierd ecm readings!
ok, so i was having a problem with my O2 sensor and my MAF so i got new ones and it seemed to run better but i was still getting an SES. I borrowed my friends diagnostic machine w/datastream and i was throwing code 44 again. here was my O2 reading as per the ecm:
O2 fuel status: lean
O2 cross counts: 0
O2 voltage: between .00 and .09
Stayed Lean the whole time computer in open loop
MAF reading was normal and so was the TPS
now it gets interesting. I turned the car off and just turned the ignition on and all of the sudden the diagnostic machine comes up incoming code. the car wasn't even running, so i see what it is and its Code 33 MAF malfunction out of the blue, so i start her up and after code 33 came on the ECM stays in closed loop now and now i have normal O2 sensor readings and they are as follows:
O2 fuel status: Flips Rich and Lean as it should
O2 cross counts: 18-30
O2 Voltage: beatween .24 and .89
I am completely flabergasted and i have no idea whats going on. i checked the MAF burnoff relay and i noticed that the black wire is falling out of the harness but i shoved it back in there. I didn't look at the MAF power relay. I'm extremely frustrated and need some help. so please help me lol

Re: HELP!! wierd ecm readings!
i dont know if this helps but with the ignition on car off in datastream the computer gives me a MAF reading of 3460 g/s and then i start it it goes down to about 2100 g/s.....shouldnt it read zero when the engine is off?...i also unpluged the MAF power relay and i had no change in my readings....i figure if i pulled the power relay that i would get a 0 reading but i didnt it was exactly the same

Re: HELP!! wierd ecm readings!
alright put the old MAF back in, and an idle figure around 1900 gm/s for the MAF, but i threw a code 33 and a 44 again, from what i read on another post code 33 should only set when this occurs:
4500gm/s or more for .06 seconds with TPS less than 1/4 throttle, RPM under 2000
Im starting to lean towards either a bad hypertech chip, or a bad ECM

Re: HELP!! wierd ecm readings!
I started getting a weird code 34, 32 and 22 all of a sudden. I troubleshooted the wiring and sensors and everything was checking out ok. But the car was justing acting crazy and nothing made sense. I also started having problems linking up to my scanner. So Pace performance mentioned to me that the earlier TPI MAF computers are very troublesome (part #1227165) and that I should upgrade to the new AC Delco replacement part # 88999194 which apparently corrects some troublesome circuits.
I replaced my ECM with the Delco and all my problems went away and now the car now runs better then ever. Even if it is not the ECM in your car the new Delco computer is a good base to start with. If you decide on a new ECM be sure to get the Delco. The other reman's do not correct problems like the new delco does.
My car for the first time in the 14 years i have owned it finally runs right!!!

Re: HELP!! wierd ecm readings!
ok i think im making a little headway, i can make the MAF code 33 appear almost on command. so what i did was i reset the computer, and then purposely set code 33 on purpose (to do this i just turned the ignition on and let it sit for about 10 seconds like that and it triggers the code and gives me a very generic g/s reading, i guess what it should be roughly) when codee 33 is active my o2 sensor reads spot on and my rich condition in gone and i won't set 44. my question is with code 33 active will the ecm put out a standard o2 reading as well as a standard g/s MAF reading? or are those the correct readings and i have either a bad MAF or a bad wire somewheres?

How much did tha t new ECM cost?Did you have to get another prom or is it just a direct replacement/upgrade?Did you get it from pace or a dealership?

Re: HELP!! wierd ecm readings!
i didn't replace the ECM, im trying to avoid it, i did however take the hypertch MEMCAL out and put the factory one in, and i didn't get a change other than when the fan comes on and lets face it 225 deg fan kick on is a little hot for me so i put it back in
i saw the DELCO ECM on http://www.rockauto.com for a little over $200.00 i think

I got mine from a local ac delco distributor for 125.00. You can buy it online at acdelco.com for 109.00 but there is a core charge of 120.00. It is a direct replacement and you reuse your prom.

The one they have on there now is 165.00.Doesnt mention a core and says its a reman.Says the 1227165 is an incorrect part number
