I have a 86 TPI in a elcamino, the car starts and runs with ruff idol for about 3- 5 minutes an dies and will not re start,have good fuel pressure an spark. no code on the code reader. need help with diagnosis. have not found any vacuum leaks or fuel leaks.Now i ran i can of injector through the fuel rail like it says in the instructions. it ran good till the can was empty,hooked up fuel pump started with ruff idol for 3 minutes.then died and will not restart. I am stumped.please if any one can help me out please respond, will except all positive feed back

do you have the ecm for that motor hooked up? also it could be your maf sensor.

 

hi yes the ecm is hood up . maf shecks out goood

 

I know redundant things to ask have you checked your spark plugs? Just trying to help here. See if they are fouled? Also another thing did you make sure the spark plug wires were hooked up even just one off would do this also. Not challenging you if you hooked it up right or not just some symptoms i can think of.

 

I was going to say a leak down test, check ignition timing, TPS voltage, IACV is operating correctly, unplug MAF to see if it runs better, and also seafoam through the plenum vacuum line to find a leak.

Would I also be incorrect to wonder about the ESC and ECT because those two make lots of funky problems when the go bad.

sea foam ,does that not harden the vacuum lines...

 

After re-reading the original post, it sounds like a fuel problem. I'd double check a leak down and filter, it has to be one of those. I can't see it being anything else if he is sure everything we mentioned is spot on. I'm guessing the leak down will show something.
