Is that an orange wire and a tan/white striped wire? If so it's for the fuel pump switch... From the diagram its located somewhere there at the back of the intake, near the oil pressure sender.

Carefull though, I'm pretty sure 87 and 88 are the same in using a seperate switch for the fuel pump. Later cars had the switch built into the oil pressure sending unit. The one in the pic looks like the later style.

You can see the old style oil pressure sending unit in the first pic.

Can you get a non fuzzy pic of the end of the connector?

Re: tell me what this plug is please

the seperate sending unit for the gauge on earlier cars is the one you see in the background of the 2nd pic (1 prong type)

The connector you have there is for the oil pressure (fuel pump) switch that is located above the oil filter on tpi cars, not sure on tbi models

Later cars have the combined sender above the oil filter

Re: tell me what this plug is please

You guys are great and i appreciate all of you but here's the quick story.
The car is a TPI car,the previous owner went to a carb setup(?)and removed all the ECM and TPI harness and destroyed the power/accessories harness. So i bought an '87 TPI harness and a 350 ECM as per CHEVY THUNDER and it does show that picture and the example of the Twin split setup for the oil unit and fuel cut off? unit,so my question now is do i get a unit with the twin prongs put a "Y" on the oil unit and cut the plug off and attach some of those blade slide on's and call it good? and what is the part called,is it a oil unit for a light switch instead of an analog gauge one?

Thanks for the help.....

Re: tell me what this plug is please

What you'll want to do, is obtain the proper 1987 fuel pump switch that matches your harness. Then you'll need the pressure adapter T that screws into the block behind the intake. Then your gauge sending unit, and your fuel pump switch screw into that adapter. At that point everything will plug in and work as normal.

Also you could convert over to the later single piece switch/sending unit. You'd have to get the matching weather pack connector and wire it into your harness, but it'd save some space under the hood and it'd work exactly the same.

Re: tell me what this plug is please

Originally there is no T, the gauge unit screws in the rear china wall, the switch goes above the oil filter pad:
