Car wont Start, TPI, a little different setup
Ok, pretty much at a blank... Not the normal thing here but i hope i can get some help. My problem is The damn car will crank but not start.. I have a 1969 Camaro, with a TPI swap... Heres the setup
1969 Camaro
383 Stroker
Holley Commander 950
Paxton sn2000 supercharger
MSD Dis6 ignition
MSD distributor / Cap
MSD Coil
Aeromotive A1000 Fuel pump
Aeromotive regulator
Aeromotive Pump Speed Controller
TPI
Edelbrock runners - ported
Edelbrock intake - ported
Plenum - ported - all 3 flow matched and ported
sumped tank
paxton charger pump cooler
etc. etc.
I cant have 1500 miles on car in 10 yrs.... I did the final swap (upgrading runners, intake, 950 ecu swap, etc) 1.5 years ago....Anyway got car all tuned, etc. car drove fine for 6 months, just a weekend warrior down to the ol Starbucks, etc... Anyway had put maybe 100 miles on car in 6 months... I was going to be doing some renovating at the house, so took car over to a friends and parked in his garage for 2 weeks... Got done at the house, and went to get car... Will turn over all day long, but no start.. So towed home (10 months ago), and played with here and there with no luck.. So let sit till i had more time, anyway now i got some time,,, tried car, same thing..... Crank all day, will NOT start... squirt some starting fluid in tb and fires right up and dies. will not run on its own.. everything still pretty much practically new, i even sent ig. box back to msd, only to be told was good, reinstalled...same thing.
Anyway, i know this is a conversion, but still esentially the same, just hoping one of the guru's here might know something im missing.

Fuel pumps design it comes on at full, for a few, then drops to low, then shuts off waiting on start. Also have a manual bypass toggle to run fuel pump at full for race if you dont want to rely on ecm to control, but yes have full pressure to regulator, no blown fuses that i can find. and pump controller working as well.

Wow sounds like the same thing that happened to me,i got a 305tpi an i fixed the problem by rewiring the fuel pump relay.
I could get it to start no problem with starter fluid but it was like it never actually got fuel, but after i rewired it she fired up everytime.
I hope this helps, and sweet car by the way.

If it will only start with starting fluid then your injectors are not pulsing, it's not getting any fuel to the engine. Have your ignition module tested, most auto parts stores should be able to do it.

"MSD Dis6 ignition
MSD distributor / Cap"
Yeah but, what type of distributor does he have? Pardon me if I'm incorrect but does he necessarily have a traditional ignition module? I think a good starting point would be an injector test light(test both banks) and if that doesn't work to test the ref pulse output from the ignition that the ecm uses for injector timing.

I'm not familiar with msd ignition boxes, I was talking about the module under the
dist cap, if your dist doesn't have a replaceable module you may need to replace the whole thing.

Re: Car wont Start, TPI, a little different setup
i didnt pay attention to the post on ignition module, i stopped at ignition.. Anyway its a MSD 8366, the module is a MSD part only, i believe leads are soldered on, but im pretty sure i can get one from MSD, ive emailed them about it.
2 questions, what is best way to test module, and whats best way to test injectors to make sure they are firing.

Re: Car wont Start, TPI, a little different setup
OK. Problem solved..... At the suggestions from above, i checked the ig. module. Hmmmm,,,, you wouldnt think a damn brand new distributor (well little miles) would have a bad. module, well thats what is was. I tool apart the dis. and removed the module. Looked like some condensation was in dis. anyway the connectors were a little rusty. I ran down to autozone and bought a new one ($39), went ahead and had mine tested while there. Dead as hell. installed new one, and she fired right up.... Boy its the littlest of damn things that you dont think ok.
Many thanks guys..

Yeah they go bad pretty often, and they can cause some nice problems. I had advance auto test the 4 they had in stock for my S-10 and only 1 would test good if that tells you anything.
