The Chilton's for my IROC says you can hook a direct battery source wire to the "G" terminal on the diagnostic connector to bypass the relay in order to test it.

Re: fuel pump check
look under the dash to the right of the steering column. There should be a rectangular electrical connection staring out at you from just under the dash. Locate terminal "G" and hook a wire to it and run back to your fuse block or the battery. Pump should run. If it does the relay is bad, if it doesnt the pump is bad and that is a major repair. I have had this issue on two of my cars so far.
Re: fuel pump check
yea the pump repair is horrid most people ive called said they wont do it because of having to drop the entire rear end. But my friends brother runs a shop and said he would do it for 200 if i buy the pump if i need it done. Been realy thinking of just cutting the access hole in the trunk. Any thoughts on doing that?

Re: fuel pump check
When I did my 88 a couple of years back I was like you, had to do it out in the yard because I couldnt move it. I had to drop the axle to get the tank to move around and ended up cutting an access hole just so I could be sure everything went back right. Was a good time to clean and paint everything up under there also. It was pretty straightforward. So you may want to cut the access hole, I really hated doing it because I bought my car new and hated to cut it. In the middle of a full resto now so I am going to clean the hole up some this summer and put a full access hatch there so I dont have to do it again.
I have an 87 that the pump is out on and am doing so research now to see what kind of external pump I can use where I can just splice it in the line. (Mainly want to hear how the engine runs) But I have to find a pump that will put enough pressure on the TPI system for it to run.

Yea think I might just do that. I've got a couple things that need to be fixed. Gotta get the washer fluid working again and some wiring stuff. I put pics up in the members firebird section. Check her out let me know how I did for 1000 bucks

Looks good - I had an 86 TA, really miss that car. Always had a soft spot for the birds but I traded it in for my IROC. Good luck with it and hope you can figure out the fuel pump thing. Wiggle all the wires, look for a short and check the fuses also.
