From what ive read all youll need is a 2000+stall,custom prom and the guide bosses on the heads shaved to handle the lift on the 268xfi.
My 268xfi build should be done at the end of the week.Ill let you all know how it goes.

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

comp cams states a 2000+ stall and upgraded chip and exhaust are required. I would imagine if you dont have the stall it might die when you put it in gear.

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

madmax where did you get 2,000 rpm baseline? Comp cam states it is for 1,800-5,800 rpm. Stock stall is 1,500 correct? So an upgraded stall to at least 1,800 would be a good idea. Just wondering since I'm looking at this cam or similar for a 350 build.

8airoc, from what I've read, the xfi268 seems to be the most aggressive cam you can run in a TPI 350 with good driveability and ease of tune. Let us know what you pick.

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

For the 268, Comp's newest catalog (106-07) doesn't show a converter change as a requirement or even a recommendation. Here's the quote:

"HYDRAULIC ROLLER: Good low end torque with exceptional mid-range. Needs upgraded exhaust and programmer or chip." Nothing is listed about a converter change being needed.

Power range is listed as 1800-5800 Also, .050" specs are similar to the HotCam but, obviously the 268 ramps are more aggressive and it has more valve lift.

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

Do you still have stock TPI setup and how much work was done to heads? Stock TPI is a restriction. Maybe you will see around 280hp. Have you thought about getting some large tube runners and maybe porting the manifold base? That would help build some more power but more importantly extend rpm range to better match cam. My stock 350 starts to fall off around 4,500 rpm. That's probably where xfi will make max power but stock TPI will choke it.

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

In my modded TPI set-up engine (same as sig except intake, injectors and fuel pump), power peaked at 4750 RPM; with HSR, power peaked at 5800 RPM. No problem as a daily driver, maybe a little extra warm-up time in the cold months; in the summer, idles at 750 RPM, at a red light, in drive, with the AC blowing. It's not really that big of a cam, but lots of lift with 1.6:1 rockers. With a stock or mildly modded TPI and stock (except for ZZ4 valve springs and mods to accept the additional cam lift) heads, I had good performance with the ZZ4 cam.

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

There are a few used ZZ4 cams for sale....the XFI268 is more than $200 new, ($268 from Jegs) without lifters. PM me if you are interested in my used ZZ4 cam.

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

I got my cams much cheaper than that on ebay from a very respectable ebay store. At first I bought a 268xfi and then sold it and bought the 280xfi and I paid around $150 for hyd flat tappet canadian shipped to my door.

Hyd flat tappet:

Hyd roller:

I buy all my CompCam stuff from these guys.Save a few bucks and shipping is extremely fast.

Aside from that when I first decided on the 268 cam everyone recommended it over the 260 for the price. Its still great on the street...has a lil lope to it and makes good all round power. The 260 from what i was told starts to tickle your itch for a lil more and its just not there.

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

Will your heads handle the lift of the XFI camshaft?

Re: 268 xfi daily drive

FYI - I run an XFI-268 and spoke with two different Comp Cams reps and they both recommended a 2200-2500 stall (at least for my application).

Hope this helps.
