Re: Cold Air Induction question

Hey, surprised no one posted and thought you should at least get some response. I have the same setup and I use stock right now with apermornace filter only, there are lots of posts about modding the original box, building you own etc.

If you want to help it breath better you do need to make some mods and those will depend on how you want it to look, custom or stock.

Taking out the metal airbox and doing some cutting to allow better airflow, performace filter will allow it to breather better and still look stock.

Replacing the intake parts will allow even better flow but will look custom and if you remove the airbox and just have a filter there you might have issues with sucking the hot air from the compartment which could hurt any gain you might see.

Then you could do things like add an airfoil to the TB, remove the MAF screens. All this will make things better on the front but then at some point you will need a better flowing exhaust.

Once you have all that, and want more gains you will need to dive into the engine and make more $$ changes.

Hope this helps

Re: Cold Air Induction question

Heres what I did.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...d-air-ram.html

I think it worked out rather well. I recommend it.

Oh and knight123, can you take the screen off the MAF??? I ordered an aftermarket one and that was the first time I saw the MAF by itself and the screen was pretty restrictive looking. Is it just there freely attached to the plastic tubing, or is it somehow attached to the sensor with wires or something????? If you can, let me know how to best do it! Thanks man.

85projectZ28.. yeah you can remove the screens, no connection to any electrical wires on mine - they were glued in and I had to cut the screen all the way around using a very sharp exacto knife and then very carefully remove any short wires still there with needlenose pliers. NOTE- you must be very careful you don't leave anything there loose as it could get sucked into the engine or hit one of the sensing wires ruining the MAF (in the middle of the sensor there are very small wires that do the sensing). I also would not recommend running the car without a filter connected since anything (bug) could do the same damage. It's been said that airflow increases by about 30% with both screens removed but I don't really know the exact number but I do know it will flow MORE air with them removed!

nice setup, but the GTA and the IROC cold air induction systems are TOTALLY different.

Thank you very much for your reply. I'll take a look at your recommendations this weekend with my son.

Re: Cold Air Induction question

The black elbow is from a 88+ firebird, the aluminum tubing is a cut up import intake, the red conections are spectre, and the filter is K&N. No pics of it on the car. but it fits real nice if you don't have a charcoal canister. and the empty space is for the MAF.
