will the car run with these unplugged (pic)
This car has not run in a couple of years. 1989 forumla 350. the owner said the car ran when he parked it. I noticed these 2 sensors are unplugged.
I dont see the wires. I was going to try and start the car. Will the motor run without the sensors plugged in?? I know some motors will not stay running when some sensors are unplugged.
its the 2 in front of the lower part of the intake.

cant tell by that pic...circle the area?
looks like TPS/IAC/compressor are all hooked up correctly..
if you are talking about the 2 wires to the left in the picture by the hot water bypass valve, take a picture of what the connectors look like..only other thing in that area for wiring will be the AIR connectors, and the CTS connector.

You sure it's an 89?
the small sensor is the temp sensor for the ECM, this is what the ECM uses to control the fan, timing, and fueling of the motor.
the other looks like a Cold Start Switch, but they removed that on the 89 TPI cars.

either one unplugged will probably allow it to run, but it will run terrible.
get them fixed and replaced asap.

You'll need the casting number off the block. A lot of people say to read the one in the back driver side behind the head but IMO thats a real PITA to see on most cars. I find it easier to get the 3 digit numbers off the side of the block. The original 89 block has a 638 cast into the side, they're about 1" tall right in the middle.
As far as the cold start switch is concerned... if it starts fine without that connected then you have no worries. You NEED the CTS hooked up. Thats the smaller of the two, closer to the middle of the engine. It looks like the connector is busted off too, so a replacement sensor is in order.

I saw a 92 Formula 350 at our show last Saturday, original owner, bone stock, built January 6-8, 1992 and it has Silver valve covers.
Not sure when they switched to black valve covers, as my friend has a 92 Trans Am 305 built in June of 92 with black valve covers.

yes thats where the cold start is supposed to be, drivers side runner
edit : just noticed the manifold bolt is a hex head bolt, not a torx head bolt

Re: will the car run with these unplugged (pic)
Well you guys got some good eyes. Upon further inspection, I found the motor to have been replaced with a 90 n up motor n trans
Seem the motor was rebuilt and they could never get it running right. Now I know why it sat so long. Im going to tear it completely apart and give it a gasket overhaul. Well see what happens from here.
Check out how clean this is!!
