would this cam be a good choice for a stock l98

well I ended up pulling my motor to clean the bay and continue on my quest to remove all the old undercoating so I figured I would upgrade alittle found this cam for sale.

227/236@.050
514/524 lift
113 LSA/
2000-5800rpm range

the motor is a stock 5.7 from a 91z Itll be paired with a t56, headers dual cats, and catback

also would like to put some 1.6 roller rockers.

Would this cam do well or would it be over kill I know I would have upgrade the valve springs. or would more be needed.

If you get a cam like that I would upgrade the heads too. Stock heads would be restrictive with that cam.

^what he said. That cam is a good choice but not without heads, intake and exhaust work to put it to its full potential. Stock heads would not only be a bottleneck..i dont think they will handle that much lift without some work. Valvesprings are only half of it. Might need to do some machine work to get that kind of lift. And if your going to spend the money to mod the stock heads for lift...might as well take that money you were going to spend and put it towards a nice set of heads. What are you running for an intake right now? Stock TPI or aftermarket TPI? Headers are good so your exhaust is all set. Just gotta get the intake and heads flowing more and you'll be golden.

Re: would this cam be a good choice for a stock l98

Right now I'm just running a stock tpi setup, My plans are to go stealth or if money permits mini ram, But I'm honestly just looking for a cam that can be used on the stock heads. Nothing crazy.

I just pulled the motor and I dont see it worth it unless I do something to the motor So I figured cam and roller rockers.

Any suggestions of a cam that would fit what I'm looking for.

Stock heads, TPI something in the 211-216@050 range, just under .500 lift is fine. Roller cam engine? Could find something used on Ebay just to get you by, once you swap intakes and upgrade heads you may find you want more cam especially with a stick.

Cam you listed is way too big.

You can try the zz4 cam. But if you do get screw in studs.

not to mention if you're upgrading heads.. you need a way for more air to get to them.. need to think about opening up the plenum, and larger runners

yes its a roller cam engine. But with screw in studs doesnt the heads need to be removed and sent to a machine shop? the motor only has 68,000 on it..
