Junk yard score. Whatsit
The only v8 F body in the place. And everything was sitting in the front seat waiting for me.
weird. I had to pull the injectors out, or the cashier was gonna charge me $7ea for them!
Also pulled the MAP off. He was gonna charge me for that too. Dont know if I should have kept that or not. I assume not. ?

Anyways, the memcal looks different than others ive seen. There is a larger chip above the 2 smaller chips. And the label says ATNY, and the ship says AXYD. Im assuming those are supposed to match?

Another question. I thought this dist was supposed to have the bronze gear on it? It appears to have a steel gear. And best I can tell sticking a magnet to it, its def steel. Unless the bronze type gear is magnetic. ?
The Dist is a 1103749.

Having the steel gear is normal on the distributor.
Any reason for grabbing all this?
BTW you probably should have keeped the map sensor.

what about the runners, intake manifold... if you grabed them to do a swap you left half of what you need.... mind sharing how much you pay?

They were gonna crush the car and everything in it. A few months ago, they had a Jeep YJ body (nearly perfect shape) sitting on the ground, completely stripped. Me and a buddy could have carried it out. But they wouldnt let me buy it. I could buy parts off of it. But couldnt buy the tub. They crushed it.
This was all that was there. No intake or runners. I was puzzled also. I guess someone didnt need these parts. So they politely put them in the front seat for the next guy.
$132 for everything in the picture. Dont know if thats a good deal. The ecm looks good. No water damage. The dist is a tad stiff. I assume oil varnish buildup.
The fuel rail dont have any kinks, dings or dents.
As far as the dist gear, all I have been reading everywhere, is you need the bronze gear with the factory GM roller cams (87+). Even the TPI swap book I have, and the Lingenfelter book.

thats the only reason why i've passed on so many tpi settups from the junk yard (their prices)
and here they are complete one day and scattered around the next day, with yours at least someone thought of other people and only took what they needed.

This junkyard nickel and dimes you BAD! And they charge a 'clever' core charge for every single part also. Like im gonna drive back the 50miles and bring back my old dist for $2.50. Or bring them back my old fuel rail for $1.00.
They pick out every sensor, and gadget they can find. I would have pulled them off, but they were about to close. Im not in the habit of using junkyard sensors. All I got off quickly was the injectors and map. With the injectors and map, the total was $175.

Its a junkyard not Autozone, sheesh!!! Next time I go to my local junkyard I'll gladly pay $3 for a fist full of fuses lol. I've used the bronze and steel distributor gears without any problems, so it'll be alright if you decide to use it. That's a steep price, but if thats what you're looking for, then thats all that matters.

Thats the kind of junkyard I like to wear a big bulky coat. A couple of injectors or whatever in each pocket.....who's gonna know? I like to call it my little way of sticking it to the man. A little street justice, if you will.

They do the "Core charge" here in AZ as well. Just a scam, for the most part. They are scrappers, not rebuilders.

9 time out of 10 the cars didn't go to the junkyard because of a bad sensor or ECM. I get my altenators from the junkyard for $30 and they last just as long as a new one. The cars goes to the junkyard because they have been wrecked or the engine went out and the owners can't afford to fix them.

Re: Junk yard score. Whatsit

Just whip out a credit card as you throw your part up on the counter. I have done this alot to get smaller stuff as its not really worth the credit charge for them.
The core charge is dumb but bring back your old one and they can't add it in. I get hit with environmental fees to. Should call the EPA the next time I see antifreeze on the ground.
