Wont stay running till start number 4...

Hey guys been on here reading some posts and there is not one that is really discussing the issue I am having. I have an 89 vert with 305 TPI and it has been running great up till now. It starts everytime, revs to about 3000 rpm and then dies instead of dropping to idle, after 4 times of that, she starts up, drops to idle and runs great till i shut her off. Any ideas? I am thinking fuel pump, but it is not typical fuel pump problem i have dealt with. Usually in idle when you rev it would die, and she doesnt. Any help or a link to thread discussing this would be great.

Thanks

Re: Wont stay running till start number 4...

Codes that came up:
23 - Manifold Air Temperature sensor ( this has been on for a while, i have changed it a couple times and it wont go away
34 - MAF Sensor ( replaced this a few months ago)
42 - Electronic Sparks timing

Fuel pressure is 42 lbs key on FP vacuum un hooked
Fuel pressure is 46 lbs running FP vacuum unhooked
Fuel pressure is 36 lbs running FP vacuum hooked up

The above codes in the manual all have something in common saying a defective ECM. But dont want to jump to any conclusions.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

yeah if you look a lot of codes have the final conclusion of "faulty ECM"

however you should only do that if you have gone through all of the disgnosis to rule everything else out.

MAF code. start with the relays and check the harness and MAF connector for any burnt wires. I had a GTA that the MAF shorted and burnt the ECM ground all the way back to the ECM. not saying thats your problem just saying that it happens.

as far as MAT that is a little important so you may want to actually diagnose that because it doesn't seem to be the sensor if you have replaced it before

and 42 electronic spark timing is VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT. that is most likely what is causing your condition. check to make sure that the brown wire on the distributor is plugged in, if it is that start at the distributor

Might want to pull out, clean and reset your IAC.

Thanks guys for the input, yes i did reset and the codes are still coming up. I will look at electronic sparks control first. I might try IAC too, I havent touched that yet.

So I reset the codes and now the MAF sensor code comes up code 34. How do you test the MAF sensor? This may be the issue, it was part of the issue last time she wouldnt stay running

Check spark at at least two plugs. Check injector power and pulse with a noid light or a 12v test light.
