Re: stripped out a torx bolt...HELP!!!

If you grab some heavy duty wire snippers, you can get a good grip on the bolt head and slowly turn it. Use this style; http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...&storeId=10051

if the above doesn't work, could use a dremel to make
a screwdriver slot in the head of the stripped torx bolt

Make sure you have the correct sized tool and its not rounded off.
I can sometimes get the bolt out with some valve grinding compound, put it on the tip for more grip.

btw best thing to do to make sure you got the right size take one of your other bolts with you to make sure it will fit. but this will do it, trust me I've been fighting with these torque bolts for years lol.

Re: stripped out a torx bolt...HELP!!!

weld a nut to the head, lay nut on there and fill in the center with a weld puddle.

Re: stripped out a torx bolt...HELP!!!

What I found to be the easiest way was to just drill out the head of the bolt. If you drill out the center of the bolt the head of the torx bolt will fall off allowing you to remove the plenum and the runner flanges are so thick the there will still be enough of the bolt sticking out of the plenum to grab it with a pair of vice grips or weld a nut on.

I've had good luck with these if the bolt is big enough for the tool to really dig in. One thing that's made this sort of job much easier is heat. You don't need to get the bolt bright orange, but get it dark red then let it cool. The heat will break the rust and galvanic corrosion bond, and that external Easy Out tool will pull it right out.

Re: stripped out a torx bolt...HELP!!!

I had to use an angle grinder to make a cut in the head of the bolt. Then using a chisel and a BFH strike it at an angle to turn it out. The force and impact will break it free.
