305 TPI build hep needed!
okay so im starting this thread to try and get some help with building up my 92 trans am 305 tpi. I want to get heads and a cam for it, but ihave no idea what i should be looking for. this is my first solo small block build. I've built several big block chevys with 1500+ hp for our race team. I know that there are many limits with the 305's and i can't get a stupid crazy cam because of the IAC velve without reprogramming the computer. but i just want to build about 350-400 hp with a moderate cost. im just doing this until i can get my 383 stroker done, or hopefully get my hands on an ls1 or ls2 for a good price. 'll take any advice i can get!!

In the search box, type in different phrases, such as 305 build. Here's an example:

Re: 305 TPI build hep needed!
It's obviously not going to be stock?
As i mentioned i want to get heads and a cam for it, and possibly a turbo in the long run. I'm just not sure what a good set of heads would be or what kinda of cam the 305 IAC can handle. or who i could send the Computer to get reprogrammed for a good price. im not a newbie to cars, I've been working one them since i was 12 but as i mentioned this is my first Tpi build and I've built several chevy big block race engines running 14:1 on methonal, with .875 lift solid roller cam, with 6535 I-beam rods. I just need some advice with the tpi's. if its too big of a pain, I'll just swap it out for a 383 stroker with a blower. Emissions aren't a problem out here seeing as we don't have any

It's going to take considerable money to make 350-400hp with a 305 TPI, you'd have better chances of reaching that if you swapped out the 305 for a 350 block, as it is most people say the 350 TPI can make max hp around 450

Re: 305 TPI build hep needed!
You could go the route that I am going on my build. One of the biggest problems the 305's had was the heads flowed poorly along with the tpi system. Vortec heads dont work with the factory intake. If you find the vortec TPI Base plate and bolt on your top half you now have your tpi system for vortec heads. Port and polish throw on a set of headers and see what you get. You can upgrade the cam to something a little more aggressive without having to change on your ECM. I plan on doing all of the above including eliminating the EGR and retuning my PROM. Anyways thats what I am going to do for my build hope these ideas help and best of luck to you
