Emptying gas tank

I have a 90 5.7 TPI and want to empty the tank because it has sat for too many years.
I have tried to siphon but can't get the hose to the gas.
I know about the fuel lines by the steering shaft.Which one comes out of the tank?
How do I keep the fuel pump running to empty the tank?

I also have the 'air Bag" light on and would like to trouble shoot whats wrong with it.

Thanks

Re: Emptying gas tank

There are 2 lines up by the engine, the slightly larger one is the supply. Jump the orange and grey wires on the fuel pump relay and the fuel will pump out of that line.

Re: Emptying gas tank

The pump will ever totally empty the tak. The only way is to either punch a hole in the bottom (bad idea if you are not welding a sump over it) or removing the tank. Then remove the whole pickup/sender unit and us a siphon pump to remove the fuel

Twin_Turbo
I'm not looking to get every last drop out.It has at least 1/2 a tank of old gas and I don't want to take a chance. It has 26K miles and most of those miles were in the first 4 years. It was last inspected in 2006.

Re: Emptying gas tank

relay should be on driver side firewall next to brake m/c. make sure you jump the right one cuz there should be one (or two) more for the cooling fan(s). you can tell by the wire colors, tho...
