People with a tpi and a engine with more than 350ci's

Just seeing how many people with big small-blocks still using a tune port. Wanted to get an idea of what you did to get what? Any who, heres my 406 tpi build going in my 86 c10 truck.

I think this intake comparison
http://xtremecarzone.com.au/index.php?showtopic=386

accurately reflects what happens when you put the "designed for a 305 " TPI intake on a big cube engine.
TPI is fine for bottom end , stump pulling ,torque but you are leaving a lot of potential Hp behind.

thanks vetteoz! been looking for a copy of that article! I agree im leaving a lot of hp on the table with the tpi. I was looking for big block torque and fuel injection for the mileage and sak of tuning. I was looking at a 350 when I stumbled across the 400 sbc. Just seeing if any more builds like this out there.

Much better than I would have thought. On the dyno it was north of 300rwhp all the way past 6k and it was relatively flat from 3.5k until we cut it off at 6k.

The torque however dropped off quickly, in typical TPI fashion. It started strong at over 450ft/lbs at 3400 rpm, but it dropped to 300ft/lbs by 5500.

Disregard the run-out after 6k.

Keep in mind this was a low budget build. I have around 4k in the engine including tuning.

Did you have any trouble getting them to seal? My runners wouldn't seal properly causing a massive vacuum leak. We had to put two gaskets on one side and one gasket + RTV on the other.

I've had the runners for 10+ years and I've had them on/off multiple times on two different engines and I've never had a problem with them sealing. Maybe I got lucky with a good set?

My sig shows it all, I wanted a torque motor and that is what I got, AMAZING on the street, it shocks anyone that rides in it... some much fun compared to the L69 and 200r4!

Nice, Tuned Port Injection in a Monte SS, that is the way it should have been from the factory. Throw some pictures up if you can, and possibly some video if you have...

I see alot of of Monte SS's at local car shows with TPI motors. They really look great in the engine bay. Especially when done right and clean.

I always wondered why GM didn't throw a TPI engine into the Monte Carlo SS. The GN/Turbo-T cars got a hopped up engine so I don't see why the Monte couldn't have gotten something a little better then it ended up with.

I have a 383 in my Iroc and decided with the SuperRam. It pulls to ~5200rpms if I remember correctly.

Re: People with a tpi and a engine with more than 350ci's

Thanks guys, I could never figure out why the Monte Carlo SS didn't get a 350 with a TPI from the factory. When I ordered mine new (yup I'm the original owner) I thought maybe I could find some secret box to check off and get a TPI but no.. LOL!
I will clean the motor and get some photos up soon. I do have a video I me running on a side street then pulling down onto the Interstate running through all 6-gears with a little fishtailing in 3rd gear that I like. I will try to get that up as well.
At the time I read that some of the Monte Carlo SS engineers really fought to have the TPI and a manual transmission installed but was told the F-bodys and the Corvette was enough.
You guys have some really great looking TPI motors, I don't think there is a more beautiful motor than a SBC with a TPI!
