FPR Spring cap

I think I have an idea what my no static fuel pressure problem is. If you look at a FPR spring assembly there is a metal cap sitting on top of the spring. My FPR does not have this cap. Would this cause it to not operate and function properly ie not hold static pressure, surge under hard acceleration? what can i use as a replacement for this cap (since trying to buy just a spring cap would be near impossible)? What are your opinions on "the penny trick"? Thanx in advance.

Re: FPR Spring cap

If you turn the key on you get no static pressure or it doesn't hold pressure when the pump stops?

Re: FPR Spring cap

doesn't hold when the pump stops. almost instant 0 psi. With the pump running 40ish psi. Squoze (?) the return line and very very slow pressure drop.

Re: FPR Spring cap

the regulator should give you 43ish psi with pump on engine off. the "cap" if missing should only bring the psi down slightly if using a nonadjustable fpr. you've got different problem. are you sure you're squeezing the return line not the pressure?

Re: FPR Spring cap

the line going straight to the rail(pressure)? Or coming from the regulator(returm)? I have no I idea which is top or bottom.

Re: FPR Spring cap

I can't tell you for certain since I've never had a problem with a bad regulator but, pinching the return line points at the regulator. If you had pinched the pressure line I'd suggest you pull the tank to get to the fuel pump. As far as the penny trick, I don't know if its the correct size or dimensions for it. It would likely just bump your pressure way up when the pump is on. AFPR's often have a small metal disc in there but its for the screw to push on.
