The Cruise Control Delete Thread

I've searched and searched but can't find a TPI guide for removing the cruise control unit.

My car is an 88 IROC and I want to remove as much as possible.

Anyone have any pictures of what can be removed? How to I plug tubes that aren't needed?

Any advice?

what, this is so simple.
Just unplug and unbolt everything thats attached to it.

-don't forget the vacum canister too.

Re: The Cruise Control Delete Thread

The cruise control assembly is the stick on the side of the column, the box in the driver's side kick-panel and the unit that actuates the throttle. I kept the box and the wires that weren't connected to the actuator in the car. PO swapped sticks and didn't put a cruise control stick back in. You'll want to plug the vacuum line coming off of the plastic bit where my hand is.
2 bolts on the bracket on the bottom to remove it.

My boost gauge line is hooked into the vacume hose that (used) hook into the cruise control.

Re: The Cruise Control Delete Thread

Thanks Dakota that is really helpful.

Why? It didn't work anyway, I will never use it, it could be leaking, it's ugly.

Naw, you'll be goo man. Im full gutted under the hood. Both frame rails and al of the firewall see full day light. Also, ALL 8 plugs are changed from the top, and yo can see the pavement around my LTs.

(actually, the only things under the hood are mod parts and whats required to run.

Re: The Cruise Control Delete Thread

So just been out and taken it all out.

First pic is what I did with the 'T' that feeds the vacuum canister and the HVAC (heater vents). I removed the long line to the canister and decided to run a tube direct from the plenum into the firewall for the HVAC. As far as I'm aware this will just effect the position of some of the vents depending on vacuum available from the engine- no big deal for me.

Then I removed the actual Cruise unit (only 2 nuts) and pulled the throttle cable. There are 2 holes for vacuum line, one small and one large-

The smaller one seems to have fed the canister (also known as the orb of power) and through a T also fed the HVAC as discussed above.

The larger vacuum port- I removed the hose and plugged it as so-

Was this right? Not too sure about it.

Anyway went for a cruise and it all seems ok.

Any suggestions or feedback?

Re: The Cruise Control Delete Thread

Larger hose goes to the Switch by the brake pedal. No need to plug it- it is there to quickly vent the vacuum from the cruise when the brakes are touched.

Re: The Cruise Control Delete Thread

Is it okay to remove the vacuum line that has the wires taped to it and the connections near the brake pedal or does this have some functions other than cruise?

Re: The Cruise Control Delete Thread

This thread is ******. The vacuum reservoir is for the dash vents, it's just a convenient out of the way place to tap into engine vacuum. Just replace the tee by the battery with a hose splice connector. The entire cruise harness from the servo thru the firewall to the dash harness can be removed as one piece. Unscrew the ground wire by the brake booster, pop the rubber grommet out of the firewall, and disconnect the wires under the dash. The controller box under the passenger side of the dash isn't worth messing with, it's just a light plastic box with a printed circuit inside.
