Installing used injectors?

I just bought an '87 IROC TPI 350. It has an issue with running rich and the plugs getting wet with fuel. I'm thinking I could possibly have some leaky injectors. I have a set of injectors for a lower mileage '87 Corvette that have been sitting out if the car for a few years. Is there anything I should do to the as far as cleaning or anything or just put them in and see what I've got?

Re: Installing used injectors?

my guess is that they are "shot". Get an ohm meter and check the resistance. Although they should be checked both hot and cold, this will at least give you an idea if the coils have some life in them at all. As far as cleaning stock multecs that have been sitting for a few years yourself.....Good luck!

Re: Installing used injectors?

I wouldn't waste my time on them. They are probably stuck and are likely bad or soon will be if they are like the stock TPI injectors that came with your car. Plus, a set of remanned and flow tested injectors is fairly inexpensive considering the amount of work involved to change them. Besides leaking, the stock injectors like to short out when hot and shut the ECM down like you ran out of gas or have an ignition failure of some sort. No fun getting stranded, trust me I know. It only takes one bad injector to do it to you.

Re: Installing used injectors?

Are the screens you can see when you look down in the top of the injector replaceable?

Also I have a set of Bosch style 28 lb. injectors out of an LS1, can I use those in the L98 and if so would the extra lbs. cause any problems?

I appreciate your efforts to be frugal, and to use what you have on hand(I am the same way).
But, with the low cost of the quality injectors Southbay sells, combined with the amount of work it takes to install injectors, there really is no reason not to put new ones in.

Re: Installing used injectors?

Wow I just checked out South Bays website and those are really good prices. I think I'll have to buy a set of those. Should I get the 22 or 24 lb. injectors?
