TPI running sooo rich

well, here i go again.after spending the equivilant of what it costs to buy a new toyota on my 86 Z-28.im right back where i started. plug in the MAF and the car will barely start, and when it does. it is rich beyond belief, black smoke stinking like raw gas ect.unplug the MAF and it runs much better, but obviously not correct.every last part is new under the hood including the NEW MAF sensor from GM @ $1000.all the relays are also GM and new ad nauseum. on and on .new engine, injectors, regulator, throttle body ,TPS,IAC,temp sensor no vac leaks. yadda yadda.bought a FSM and followed the trouble tree for no results what so ever.i really dont want the car if i have to rip everything out and just go get a carb.anyone else have any ideas?? i would really like to keep and drive it. but not if all i can get for my $8000 is close. HELP ,SOMEBODY ANYBODY HELP!!!!!!

Re: TPI running sooo rich

sounds like the only thing you havent investigated is the EGR....isnt its sole purpose to burn off any remaining fuel or emissions? also what about O2 sensor? from what youre describing, something would seem to be telling the car to pump wayy too much fuel into the car and it sounds almost lke the MAF is a main proponent

Check the vacuum line from the fuel psi regulator for raw fuel.
What injs are in the car?
Cheaper places to get a GM/Bosch maf.

the injectors are from AZ and they OHM correctly the fuel pressure diaphram is from oreilleys and it does not have fuel in the vac hose. see gentlemen,, all those "easy" fixes have been checked to death. as i have been fighting this battle since 2009.

Re: TPI running sooo rich

Have you checked the injs to make sure they are holding fuel PSI and not bleeding by?

Sounds like you have found the problem with the MAF but are in MAF denial like we all have been...

A code is for a problem SOMEWHERE in a system ; not that just the item of that system is bad.
Need to work through the diagnostics , could be a wiring or ground problem
especially as you have both high and low MAF fault codes

from here im going to make a new underhood wiring harness,as you are probably correct on that one. and yes GM created a very vague system of checking itself for problems .almost like "hey, there is ,well maybe something wrong here ,but we just don't know"

You are dealing with 25 year old technology.

The ECM "expects " certain inputs on a system under certain conditions and if it doesn't see them as it should it tells you there is a fault somewhere in the system
Hence the flow chart to identify the actual problem so you don't throw $$$ at it in the hope of randomly fixing it

Re: TPI running sooo rich

mine runs rich also.. but not to the extent you are talking about.. but I can smell the exhaust and it's very rich and I'm sick of smelling it.. not to mention when I fill up the gas tank it smells like it's leaking.. I think that subsides when the gas is lower or over time.. I don't know but it makes me sick..

Do you have a scan tool that reads out sensor values real time?
