89 Iroc 305tpi. Car has new MAF and O2. I keep getting code 45 after the car warms up. I've had multiple o2's on it and still code 45. After it gets the code the car runs very rich and bogs down is almost impossible to start. Any ideas? I figured o2 until I changed it now I'm lost. I've even disconnected the battery but the code comes right back.

 

did it run ok BEFORE the new MAF? are you sure you got a NEW MAF? it wasn't a auto zone "cardone special" was it? I had this same issue for more than a year till I finally got wise and bought a NEW MAF. yeah pig rich, code 45 BS.

 

The car ran like garbage before the MAF. And it is a used bosch unit. The MAF definitely made a huge difference. Also I'm getting about 165 miles per tank of gas. So something has to be wrong.

 

the MAF has EVERYTHING to do with fuel flow. im not saying that your used one is bad. but I suspect that it MAY be. your fuel regulator diaphragm being bad will also feed un metered fuel into the system. I suggest a pressure test to confirm.

 

I believe that MAF has a 1 year warranty so I definitely need to put on another to see what it'll do. I got code 45 again today. No clue why. This is the 3rd o2 in about 2 months.

 

All 3 times I changed the o2 it was very burnt.

 

too much fuel will overheat and burn up a o2 sensor.(ask me how I found THAT out).have you confirmed the MAF you bought was a. . . . .ahem. re man one? where did you buy it,may I ask? if you bought a re man .THERES your problem. I bought SEVEN of them ,dude.from various places. and im here to tell ya. there are NO re man ones worth the box theyre in. I found that theres only one company that re builds them "cardone"regardless what the box says, and they all are from CHINA. I had your same BS problem for ever .till I went to oreilleys and bought a NEW one made by a company called "RICH_PORTER". and although it cost $450. it DID once and for all fix it. now it just plain works. keep at it ,do a fuel pressure test, and look for fuel in the regulator to plenum hose. it CAN be done .you CAN fix it. although ,you may be damn near broke AND crazy by the time you do. good luck,bro.

I just got exact the same problems but I've got a cc quadrajet and not a TPI.

 

So many of these stinking threads, the OP just disappears. It would be nice if there was some freaking follow up after getting help.
