Oil pan help

I am working on installing my procharger and i was wondering if it is very hard to just pull the oil pan, and then put a different fitting in so i don't have to punch a whole in the pan. I've read somewhere where someone did that but my question is how hard is it to pull the pan with the engine and everything in the car. Is it possible? Thanks for the help

oil pan

Once I tried to change my oil pump in an 85 Monte SS--it was impossible to do w/the engine in the car!! Tried everything--unbolted the motor mounts, jacked up the engine--took out all the bolts from the pan too! Not enough clearance for the pan to clear the crossmember.
Now I know this isn't the same kind of car--but it's a similar setup.
Good luck to you!

I found out how to drop the pan the hard way. I dropped a nut down my distrbutor hole while changing the heads. Had to un bolt the motor mounts and jack up the motor as much as i could. You may have to pull the distributor inorder to raise the front of the motor enough.

Hope that helps, Curtis

I have a Vortech. Very well put together kit, fit and finish was excellent. Yet for some reason they to have you punch a hole in the pan. Rinky, dink. It is not easy to do at all, from under the car, no clearence etc. I did it . It worked. Few months later we had the engine out and just for safety sake I added a Moroso oil pan(7qts with filter) and had a threaded bung welded in the pan for that return line. No more worries about leaks or lack of oil. Just food for thought.

Someone just posted this on our email list..

It's do-able. The 3rd Gen F-body will be very similar to the Monte chassis.
