Camshaft selection for AFR195s and Stealth Ram

So right now I have stock L98 heads milled 0.010" and a stock TPI intake with a ported plenum and a Comp Cams grind # 266HR-14, 0.500"/0.510 lift, 210/220 Duration @ 0.050", 114 LSA. I have an EBL Flash P4 ECM with a custom tune by me (tuned on a dyno and the street with a Dragy and a WB O2) Dynoed at 236 WHP / 337 WTQ (at the start of the pull. It looked like it would have been higher had the dyno operator been able to hold the 700R4 from kicking down to a lower gear) at a 2800 DA. The car has SLP 1 3/4" shorty headers with the AIR injection pipes removed and ground out running to an open Y-Pipe

The car runs 13.7 ETs @ 98 mph on a track or 14.0 ETs @ 100mph on the street.

Is that cam too small for a pair of AFR 195 Enforcers as cast and a Holly/Weiand Stealth Ram? I live nearby the legendary Lloyd Elliot who could port the AFRs as well.
Or should I go ahead and swap the cam while I have everything else apart? What specs would be optimal for that setup?

This car is in Texas so no emissions needed to be followed. I have a Pro-Built Stage 3 700R4 with a 2400 stall non lockup Continental torque converter.

Re: Camshaft selection for AFR195s and Stealth Ram

All depends how high you wanna turn it and how fast you wanna go lol

if you go bigger on cam you should up stall speed by 1000 imo and retain lock up for better driveability

i tuned a xfi 280 stealth ram afr 190 on a refreshed L98, and although it had valvefloat from incorrect springs, it still made 330 whp before float and ran 12.2’s. Had it had the proper afr spring it would have done 360 whp and been high 11’s

its a big cam tho. Tuneable and good driving once dialed in but needed gear and 3600 stall. It didnt have ideal compression imo

so you could try something in the 218-224 deg intake duration and similar exhaust side up to 6 deg split imo. Mid 500 lift. 110-112 lsa to keep it driveable. I think you’ll like it. Should be done by 6400 rpm which is about as high as you wanna go on a stock bottom end

but keeping current cam and adding heads intake will def increase hp by alot

Let Lloyd do the heads and provide a cam to match. Really doubt you would be dissapointed. Several of his LE2 setups have dyno'd over 400 rwhp in a 350 LT1.

Lloyd ported the heads on my 383. I dropped them off with him and picked them up finished like the next weekend.

Forgot to add its a 355ci with Speed Pro Forged pistons with 4 valve reliefs and has 10.05:1 compression right now with the milled heads and Fel-Pro gasket I'm running. Rings gapped to 0.022" for boost or nitrous. Forged crank and Rods. Its the OE block so 2 bolt mains.

whats funny is according to some internet experts, if you cc those heads after he ports them, they’ll say they are tooo big and will lose 100 ft lbs lol but his combos have been proven since the 2000’s

Also, might save decent money doing the enforcers and having lloyd port them. Buy them bare. But compare cost to the 195/210 eliminator heads because out the box those are hard to beat with their hydraulic roller spring upgrade package

My 11:1 383 with ~210cc ports made 399 tq @ 3,100 uncorrected through a 4L85E in 2nd gear and a 3.73 geared full floating 10.5" 14 bolt while spinning the clutch fan.

If you believe in a corrected dyno, STD correction put it at a 1.079 correction factor which makes it 430.5 ft/lbs. Its 382 hp @ 5,600 uncorrected also jumps to 412.2 when corrected.

Those heads are wildly mismatched with the cam according to the expert know it alls! Cam is a 218/228 on a 108 LSA installed at 106 ICL and 1.7 rockers for 0.578 lift. That cam also has Rhoads V-Max lifters on it that make the cam even smaller at low rpm.

Re: Camshaft selection for AFR195s and Stealth Ram

I’m running a 355 with ported/matched AFR 195s and a Stealth Ram. My cam is a Lingenfelter .525/.525 219/219 112cl. Full roller rockers, etc. It’s a good combo for me.
