SLP runners wirht it?

I have a chance to buy a set pretty cheap. Wondering if I'll notice much difference. Right now I have a 5.0tpi 6-spd with headers, chip, air foil, ported plenum, full exhaust, K&N, coil, wires, etc. Building a L98 with LT4hotcam, head work, siamesed base, and tuning. Will I notice any difference with my 305? I'msure I'll notice onthe big motor. Thanks

I can't say from personal experience, but No. I've heard of these being put on stock 350s with little or no gain. The 350 uses the 305s intake. If it doesn't help on the 350, which would need more air, I can't imagine it'll help a 305. Actually, I've heard of 305s losing power with bigger throttle bodies...I could see the same happening with bigger runners. It might increase top end hp, but will hurt torque.
I guess I pretty much just convinced myself that I don't know, but I sure wouldn't buy them for a 305. Your 350, though...

if you have a305 I wouldn't personaly, I have a 350 and I'm putting the stuff in my sig on here in the next couple of weeks. so I'll need em for sure. but for a stock or mildly moded 305 I don't think they would be worth the money. Nice sig. pic too man!

Thanks guys. I'm taking this as a yes to buy them. I can get a set for $200 right now. I doubt that I'll put them on my 305. I'll probably just siamese them some more and put them on that 350 thats going in a few months. Well, thanks for the help!

I think it's a wash......

I have a set on my 305.

I port matched the plenum to them; I also cleaned up the plenum behind the throttle body. I'm using an Edelbrock manifold base in addition to the old SLP tri-y headers.

Yes, I can say that low end torque has suffered (my around town fuel mileage can attest to this). On the plus side, the engine feels as though it doesn't run out of breath at WOT near as much as stock....but only barely.

The curious thing is IIRC, didn't these runners come out in '86-'87 before the 350 was widely available? I got an old SLP catalog (if you can call it that) laying around the house someplace.

350 in 87 was not rare or anything 86 was but, I thought it came out in 87 any way.

350 TPI was out in 1987...rumor has it there may have been a skunkworked one or two in 86 but have never seen it....

The low down on the runners is its going to give you the same for 350 as 305....BUT the difference wont be HUGE unless you have other things to back it up....

IE....you bolt them on and modify the plenum...then your BASE restricts the flow...305 or 350...you get a base then your TB is restriction...then head then TB again then the runners then...ect...ect..

Bottom line is they will help but to get a huge gain you hae to make sure you have the flow before and after it to support it....They wont HURT you either way but the amount of gains depends on what they are bolted to...

Same as Taking a stock TPI exhaust and adding a 4" y pipe..... It will unclog the system a little because you are opening up one of the most restrictive parts...But It wont be anything close to what a full 4" system would give you..

FYI:
According to GM record, 76 1986 Camaros where built with a 350 late in the model year and very very few where sold to the public (exact public numbers from GM are listed as "unavailable").

Better double check your information. Both Willie and I (mostly Willie) have a bunch of information that points to 50 prototypes in 86, but there's NO evidence that a single one made it into the public.

Anyway... I'm sure SLP had the runners back then because the Corvette had TPI 350s since '85. But... the early SLP runners were supposed to be a lot different (and inferior) to the new ones that they've been making for the last few years.

According to David Shelby (quoting GM) it was 76. And he says that "very very few where sold to the public."
