Anybody here used a REMAND tranny from GM?
My tranny recently bit the dust, and I decided that a remand tranny from GM is my best shot. I don't trust rebuilds, because I've heard too many horror stories, and I have been thinking about getting a TCI streetfighter, but it cost a bit more (you have to buy the $1200 tranny and a $300 TC), but the thing that shot that down is that they only have a 90 day warranty on their trannies. I really dont want a stock remand, but I'm in college 6 hours away from home, and the 3 year 50,000 mile warranty that comes w/ the GM unit is exactly what I need...and it costs $1,080. The tranny is from Jim Pace GM parts warehouse if anybody has a GMPP book from them. Well to my question...has anybody used one of these? What was your experience w/ it? Thanks.

I got one for my 91 Z28 2 years ago when mine grenaded. Its a good solid tranny, its taken all the abuse Ive thrown at it. Its internals are updated to 1993 specs so its stronger than stock and the warranty is a nice peace of mind. I'd recommend it to you.
GM warranties their motors and trannys all for 3yrs/50,000 miles.
Looks like you somehow got cheated out of 20k miles....ede
The "remand" tranny you are talking about is a SRTA (Service Replacement Transmission Assembly). It's basically rebuilt by GM where it is in "new" condition.

I would skip the GM remanufactured trannies and go to http://www.pro-built.net because I heard transfixleo see some bad
things when he opened up these trannies and I have heard nothing but good things about pro built. :hail:

bad news
I finally got a chance to call about the GM remand tranny....the price went up. $1,274 for the tranny, 251 for the core and 215 for shipping....that's $1,740 I'd have to have up front...and I dont have time to wait long enough to get that kinda $$. I guess that idea is out. I may end up having to go w/ the TCI $1200 tranny, $300 converter, or i can get mine built for about $1,000...but I just dont trust rebuilds.

Mine is being built as we speak by Dana at Pro-Built. I did alot of research and it seems that Pro-Built was the only company that tells you exactly what is going into it. If you call Dana he can tell you and how the parts he installs address the flaws of the 700r4. I was in the same situation as you, I couldnt decide between a GM re-man or a custom rebuild. After getting the bottom-line pricing on both, they end up about the same dollar wise depending on you choose to have installed. You can actually save some money with a custom rebuild though over a GM re-man. The selling point for me was the positive comments about Dana's work and knowledge about the 700r4's(his specialty). That and why spend the same amount of money for a tranny that may only be re-manned for common problems using OEM parts when you can get a custom re-build using stronger high quality parts by a company that does nothing but trannies.

I was given a nice deal on the parts, but I'm not going to mention the price unless Dana says its okay. Also there isnt a core charge required from Pro-Built, so that will save you some money in both exchange and shipping. I'll probably have the original tranny rebuilt later time/money permitting and keep it as a spare.
As a guage to judge by I just had my tranny rebuilt locally (the shop came highly reccomended) I bought the Super Trans kit by B&M from Summit $285, $400 in labor for the rebuild and $50 for new sprags (the only part that didn't come in the trans kit), $80 for a B&M flex plate and $264 for a TCI converter.
$1079 for a completely rebuilt and upgraded trans. Not that much less than the $1200 TCI unit from Summit, of course shipping is a bugger on things like that.
Tough call to make on what to do.
