T5 swap checklist
folks, help me make sure i have everything i need to swap in the T5.......
T5 (duh)
bellhousing
flywheel
clutch disc
pressure plate
throwout bearing
master cylinder
slave cylinder
shifter
clutch/brake pedals
torque arm mount
clutch fork
Dexron III ATF
i cant find a anywhere that carries a correct VSS since i have a 2.73 rear end, so i'm just gonna wait until i either swap in a T56 or change the rear to 4.10's

VSS
A T-5 never came in a car with 2.73, the lowest ratio it was matched with was 3.08 in a V8 car , not sure about V6 cars but they are usually higher ratios anyway.I did the swap in my 91 RS V8 and the speed sensor I used was P#1045687. if you are not using a manual prom you will also need to jump out 2 wires at your park nuetral switch (where you auto shifter was) for the ECM or you will get a VSS code. The 2 wires are Black w/White stripe and Orange w/ Black stripe. The blue and green are you reverse lights, and the 2 heavy guage wires Brown and purple (I think, cant remember the colors for sure) are you neutral safety switch wires. I found neutral safety wires (same color) under the drivers side knee kick panel by the fuse box as well, I guess the factory harness has it in both places so which ever trans the car was ordered with , the N.S. wires were in either location.Hope this helps. Also , you diddnt list pilot bearing, and I would use all new flywheel bolts etc..

on this website of course!!!!!!!
its actually a V6 transmission so i had to go hunting for the correct clutch disc
yes, i know its weaker, but i need to get the Z28 on the road so i have a backup car
the guys was selling the 2.8 engine and transmission for $150 but he didnt want to ship them
so i offered him $100 for the tranny plus shipping if he did ship it, so he agreed and i got a working T5 for only $150
if you want this tranny to work, you'll need to get a centerforce clutch disc for a 1991 chevy lumina
its 9 3/4 inches, so its a little smaller, but should hold the power

Luminas came with stick?
Do you have a part number for that clutch disc?
And also, what type of pressure plate are you running?
I have a 9 5/8" inch clutch in my 84, I'm also running a v6 t-5

If you got on the clutch while the car was running, it would slip.
More or less a safety device of sorts to try and prevent running a bigger clutch which I think would exert too much pressure on the input shaft of the tranny, and break it.
And actually, I believe the clutch disc I am running is from an S-10.
