Average cost to have a t-5 rebuilt???
My friend recently bought a 5 speed z28 parts car and he said I could have everything to convert mine over for 300.00. The only thing he said was that it is hard to get it into second some times. Im assuming its the 1-2 synchros. So I figure I will do a rebuild before I put it in, if I decide to buy it, But I would rather have an expierienced shop do it becasue this is my daily driver and I cant have it braking due to me sucking at rebuilding trannys. Let me know what you guys have paid, or what should be expected to pay so I know im not getting ripped off when I bring it to a tranny shop.

$1600...........and it failed not even a year later
i'll be honest with you, i'm a mechanic aprentice and 9 out of 10 of the "professionals" dont know their *** from a hole in the sky
do it yourself..........you save some $1400 and you will give it better attention to detail because you have to live with it

Thanks 91... I think I might try it... My father rebuilt the gearbox in his british sportscar so he has some minimal knowledge of needs to be done.... I figure between the two of us we shouldnt screw it up too bad.

I just got the video from hanlon and can highly recomend it. Much better than a book. I've been through muncie's, T10's, turbo 350/400's many times. But the T5 is different with the tapered bearings and the need to set end play. They go through disassembly and assembly step by step, and tell you what problem spots to look for. I've got 27 years experience as a mechanic and even with that experience the video is invaluable to me. This video will save me hours in trying to figure this trans out, which in itself makes it worth the money I paid for it. And after I'm done with the video, I'll put it on ebay and get my money back out of it.-Dan
