Whats the proper tranny cooler size

Okay, what size tranny oil cooler do i need. I got one from the local parts store and its the biggest they have. Its recommended for heavy duty towing applications, its about as long as a big school textbook but its a lot wider. Is this going to work?

As "ede" said go with a big cooler. Don't think you can cool the tranny oil too much.

A 12000 lb. GVW cooler should work fine. It's hot in Texas a lot of the time so you could go bigger if you want.

A tranny cooler is an excellent addition. It will double the life of your tranny, at least.

I'm not so sure about that, especially if you live on the northern prairies. -40* with a big honking tranny cooler is NOT going to let that fluid get up to a decent operating temperature.

good, cause i know for sure mine tranny cooler is at least the 12000 type you suggested. It was for big *** trucks, and im sure, at the very least, its an improvement over stock

12,000 GVW is usually the smallest one on the shelf.

Yea, I have a 28000 GVW cooler, BUT is used for all out racing. (Not drag)

When I'm testing on the dirt roads around here, the trans temp doesn't go over 125 on a hot day. <- Not so good for the daily street driving.

I think a 12000-16000 is ample big for the street.

I agree with you if you live on the prairies or drive your car up here in the winter. I noticed the poster was from Texas and they don't get winters like we get here in Saskatchewan.
