LS1 driveshaft swap

I have a vibration in my car above 55-60 and I'm pretty sure it's caused by a bent driveshaft. I've heard of people using LS1 driveshafts in 3rd gens. I was wondering if this is a direct swap or if it requires cutting/fabrication, ect. I guess I'm going to have to replace my driveshaft and I want to make sure the LS1 piece will work before I buy it. Thanks!!

Are the the LS1s much better? I thought I read somewhere that they were bigger than the 3rd gen L98s. What's a good price for an LS1 driveshaft?

From what I hear its thicker yet hollow or something. Its lighter and also better balanced.

My question is...is ALL LS1 driveshafts like this? or is it only certian models? Cause imma go searching probably on thursday and I dont wanna end up buying a driveshaft tahts exactly the same as the on I have now O_o

3.23 and 3.42 geared LS1 cars came with aluminum DS from the factory...

2.73 equiped LS1 cars have a steel DS from the factory

they all seem to go for around 100$. also, a quick easy(from factory) a car with Z-rated tires will have the alum DS, easiest way IMO if you are unsure, take a magnet with you.

revlimit,

not that it really affects the conversation, but our driveshafts are hollow as well.

Does anyone know the weight difference between our steel ones and the aluminum LS1s?

What about the u-joints or the yokes? Do I need the ones from the LS1 or what?

The driveshaft I bought had all the u joints and yoke already on it...so everything bolts right on..im not sure if you can use your old yoke and u joints or not. Id say if your buying a used shft id replace the u joints with good ones. There is where I bought my driveshaft from. It was about $240 or so with shipping, but everything is bran new. http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28...up/misc/ls1ds/

dont get the LS1 shaft if you plan on using drag slicks, it will rip it all up. its about as thick as a 3 inch piece of exaust pipe. the steel one is a bit thicker. the alum is better balanced though.
