Would I have to change out valve body.

You go from Tpi with 700R4. To a carb with the same 700R4. Two totally different systems right? Tranny I mean, one is controlled by ECM and ones not. I have had many problems trying to get my tranny to work right. Now I'm told I need to replace valve body to a carb setup tranny. Does this sound right to anyone?

shouldnt have to. the 700R4's shifts are controlled by the tv cable so it should still work fine. A shift kit will firm uip the shifts and fix a few flaws but its not necesary.

Mech. told me something of a passing gear that needs to be there for a carb tranny? I have really no idea anymore. It's all one big headbuster. I'm about to blow the whole Damn car up. I'm moving soon and this crap comes up with little money. It's kinda hard just to buy a new tranny. Anyone know if a non lock up TQ converter might work for me? Just a little brain storming.

the only thing you wont have anymore is tcc lockup. You can probably live witht he converter youhave untill money becomes more available. The valve body should still work fine for the motor. Thats the only thing the ecm has contol over. I beleive the pcm systems werent used in f bodys untill 93. Stupid question but did you set the tv cable properly? That cable controlles every aspect of your transmission's functionality.

the way that usually works best is to open the throttle all the way up to WOT. Open it as far as possible. After this, press the metal "D" shaped tang on the side of the housing located in the cable bracket on the intake and pull the cable housing back as far as possible. You should see/be able to feel the tv cable itself getting taught from the tension on it. Release the metal tang and then release your cable housing. The tv cable should now be syncronized to the throttle. There is a tech article on this site, the method that is used usually doesnt work but itll familiarize you with the tv cable and the basics of how it works.

To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the 'D' shaped lock button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting (The black housing that the metal cable is in will move forward). Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the 'D' button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can (putting maximum tension on the metal cable) and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable casing so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.

Now this won't matter is the TV geometry isn't correct. You should probably look into a Cable Corrector for your Carb unless youi went with a Carb from a 700 equiped vehicle.
